Question about HP DesignJet 500ps InkJet Printer

Print Orientation issues

We typically print 24x36 sheets but also from time to time print 18x24 sheets; however, when printing 18x24 the page always prints out 24x24 square and needs to br trimmed to size. It used to print out correctly but we haven't found out what the setting is to fix it. We'd like to print the 18x24 size in the rotated orientation so we do not need to trim the paper. Can you help us fix this?

Thank you.

I had the same trouble but found that if i set the printer setting on "horizontal" for 18 x 24 (with a 24" roll of paper) and "vertical" for the 24 x 36 it worked the way I wanted. Hope that helps.

Can I print on both sides of the page

Here are the instructions for duplex printing.

The duplex printing function allows you to print data on both sides of a sheet of paper.

The procedure for performing duplex printing is as follows:

1. Open the printer driver setup window, and check the Duplex Printing check box on the Page Setup tab.

2. Select Normal-size Printing (or Fit-to-Page Printing, Scaled Printing or Page Layout Printing) from the Page Layout list.

3. Specify Staple Side.

I need to print on 9 x 6.75 pages, with the wording along the 9" side. I cannot feed the sheets into the printer with the longer edge leading, as 8.5" is the maximum it accommodates. To remedy...

it not only depends on the printer, but on the software you are using to do your text. if you are using office, you must choose orientation manually. If that doesn't work, and for example you are using word art, just leave the page as it is by default and rotate the text. Again, it all depends on the software you are using

Streaks in my pictures

You can clean the print head by using the following procedure from the troubleshooting section of the manual:

Take paper out of the printer
Take a single sheet and put it back in - upside down (i.e. shiny side down).
Close the door and wait for the sheet to eject.
Put all the paper back into the printer in the correct orientation (shiny side up), close the lid and print again.

I've discovered even better results by keeping the special blue sheet that comes with each paper pack. I run the special sheet through before I'm about to use the printer for the first time (after not using it for a few days), and also after every three prints. The result is much better printouts for me. The special blue sheet cleans and calibrates the print head. Just put the blue sheet in the paper tray at the bottom of the stack with the bar code facing down and close the lid. It will automatically eject.

Enlarge and print pictures with a lexmark 6675

You can expand your image to multiple pages, so you can stretch an 8.5x11 image to close to 18x24, by selecting Poster (in the copy menu), and 2x2.

Look at the fuser, and see if you can see a bad area on the fuser roller, matching the position on the paper. I suspect a bad fuser. Fusers need to be replaced periodically, and typically via a maint kit which replaces several feed rollers as well.. How many pages have been printed.. Print a config sheet to display this information.

Prints on only 1/2 of sheet of paper

Let's verify the main source of the problem:
Are you possibly printing web pages? Some are not very printer friendly, and could fit the description you give.
If you can print successfully from another application (notepad, MS Word, etc.), your printer is working and the issue is software related (setup, etc.), and not the device. Check your page setup to see if you have the correct page size, orientation and offsets set correctly.

If all apps fail, check your printer's User Guide for more information.

Make sure that manual feed is set to letter, on the printer front panel. This is a tabloid printer, so letter size sheets are fed long edge. The cassette will print okay because the media size info for the cassette is read by the printer from the cassette cams.
