This printer's "cartridge light" is on to indicate it needs to be refilled but we have a new cartridge in in and have been printing for a couple of days now with no issue. Now it will not print. Any suggestions?
Although the toner cartridge we used was listed as compatible it was a universal cartridge and when replaced with a Brother cartridge the machine began printing and the error indicator light went back to normal. All is well.

The lights are flashing because you are using refilled cartridges. The printer "sees" those cartridges as empty, since it can not know that someone has refilled them. When you put in new cartridges, the lights will stop flashing. Just ignore the lights and print!
each cartridge has its unique serial number,
printer remembers him,
is absent sensor of the ink level determination in you cartridge. You can to print, but message will say to you "EMPTY CARTRIGE".
this warning function can be disconnected by you in printing driver.
If you bathe new cartridge, that level will show full.
If afterwards put(deliver) old , that he will show that empty.
Printer can have a memory about two or three last cartridges.
The ink level gauge may not work properly with refilled cartridges. Because of this, you might get low ink message after refilling. To install the refilled cartridge you might need to override the ink level gauge. Overriding the ink level gauge disables the printer’s ink level tracking feature, but allows you to use refilled cartridges. To override the ink level gauge, please check your printer reference guide. After disabling the ink level tracking feature you should check the ink level visually and as soon as the ink level gets low you need to refill the cartridge. You do not want to try to print with an empty cartridge. Trying to print with an empty cartridge may damage your print-heads.
otherwise you will have to replace the cartridge .
The ink level indicator is only an estimate. See page 72 of the user manual which you can obtain here:
The HP 60 holds enough ink to print approximately 200 pgs. By the way, it also can evaporate from the cartridge quickly too so try to keep a refill kit or new cartridge on hand.
This light is indeed designed to indicate a low toner condition. Its coming on is triggered not by the actual level of toner in the cartridge, but by a software process that estimates toner use. If you are inclined to refill your own cartridges, you can use install a glass fuse in the little clip on the back of the toner cartridge that will reset the counter, and turn out the light, otherwise the light will stay on. The reset process will blow the fuse, so a new fuse is needed each time a cartridge is refilled. Leaving the light lit does not hinder the operation of the printer, so as long as there is still sufficient toner to print, the printer will operate normally.
It seems there are "new" chips & "old" chips in these ink cartridges for the HP 1200 inkjet printer. I have a cartridge with a "new" chip in and it is working fine. The printer doesn't read the "old" chips. Something to watch for when using refilled ink cartridges.
I was having the same problem and just posted it, went back to my printer, put the old cartriage back in and printed, I am taking the refilled cartriage back to walgreens where I had it filled and buying a new/hp cartriage to install.
Even if the ink level is low, you can continue printing.Press the paperfeed knob for 5 seconds. inklevel indicator will stop now.
Sometimes a new (or refilled) cartridge is not recognised correctly.
When one color is really mt, stop printing and replace inmideatly the colorcartridge.Printing or scanning without the 2 cartridges in place is impossible.
