Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

Power button I have an LG 36,000 btu unit. While cleaning the filters something odd happened. The temperature display is reading 4 and nothing seems to be working. The unit is on, but the remote is not changing anything. The remote display changes, but the unit doesn't respond. Also, I tried to switch it off manually, but the on/off button is not working either. It's like it's frozen. And the room temperature is going up. Help.

Worked like a charm. Dr. Cool is the man! Thanks. The display has gone back to normal, and the unit seems to be responding normally. If I have any other problems, I will check with you before calling a technician. I'm especially happy because I only get one day off each week and this is it. It was looking like I was going to have to spend it waiting for a service guy, so you saved the day in more than one way. Thank you so much.

Try to un hook the power by turning the breaker off for 30 minutes to reset the electronics. see if it would work after that.

Is this unidentified aircon a 3 or 4 Ton?

Look for nameplate that indicates the BTU's British Thermal Units. 12,000 BTU's are equivalent to 1 Ton. Therefore 48,000BTU = 4 Tons 36,000 BTU's = 3 Ton

What does the E1 mean on the display

I read that this is a filter problem. There may be more than one. Turn it off and clean the filter. For many window air conditioners this code is simply a reminder to clean the air filter. After like 750 hours of run time this code pops up and you have to clean the filter and then reset the unit before it will work again. To reset the code you need to simply unplug the unit and then plug it back in again. On other units you need to hold down the power button while you reenergize the air conditioner.

On another make of window air conditioner you need to push the "fan" button twice and then the "mode" button once to reset this code. Still another person found that the circuit boards where going bad and they had to replace them to get the unit to work.

This is not a split system a/c unit guys. Look at the picture. The blinking light means the air filter may need cleaning. Reset power to turn it off.

My LG portable AC Model #LP1111WXR wouldn't turn off had to unplug it. Now won't turn on.

Unplugging the unit lets the tiny computer like microprocessor reset--means problem is in the brain of the unit or its power circuit.

I have a contractor that wants to install a 36000btu outdoor unit(model # mh080fxca4a) and two indoor 18000btu indoor units(model #mh052fnca). What would be the output of the outdoor unit? The contractor...

Yes it rated for a maximum out put of 36,000 btu (3 ton) with the right indoor fan coil units which based on the model numbers should give the 36,000 btu's combined when both fan coil units are on, otherwise 18,000 btu's (1.5 ton)per fan coil.

Btu's

That air handler can accamodate different size coils. Look for the coil model number. Also you can look at the outdoor unit model number they should be matched up. There is generally a set of 2-3 numbers in the model numbers that will tell you. xxx036xxx is 36,000 btu. tonnage is 12,000 btu per ton so 36,000 btu's would be 3 tons. xxx040xxx= 40,000btu's or 3.5 tons etc.
