I don't understand when you say... "plug the power in"
You mean I should unplugged the printer before I hold both buttons?

If these steps don't work then the unit will need to be serviced

The product displays an 0x ... error code when printing (for example Error: 0xf0af8004 ). These error codes indicate that the product has an internal condition. Solution one: Reset the product Use the instructions below to resolve the issue by restarting the product.

  1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
  2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
  3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
  4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
  5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
  6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
  7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
  8. Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.

    Try the following reset:

Hold the OK and the Help button at the same time. While holding them down, plug
the power in. Continue to hold both buttons until the unit shut off.
After shutting down, release both buttons and power on the printer.

Let me know how it goes.

Alternatively follow instructions on this document from HP.

Yes, sorry, you have to unplug power to start the reset, if thet did not work, follow instructions from HP here: document from HP.

You can also try a different set of cartridges if you have one, or try cleaning with isopropyl alcohol the metal plate contact inside the ink cartridge.

If that still does not work, that means the really is really faulty (ink pump), in this case I suggest calling HP for support.

More : if there is no real fault, but the printer is stuck with the error message, my first solution should reset and clear the error, I used it many times and it works, see here.

When it does not work, usually that means that the printer is faulty.
