Question about Canon Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I have a canon xl1s video camera. I was shooting last night and I noticed that the color's were changing, I think due to a witebalance issue. I had the camera on manual wite balance. This is a new problem. can you help?

If it was set to one of the three manual WB settings & the lighting changed [fluorescent tube to incandescent light bulbs, this will happen & all you need to do is either re-WB with the new light, or set it to auto & let the camera figure it out itself.

Don,
This has to do with the color space that your camera is shooting in. Somehow this setting must have been inadvertently changed in your camera. The color Space that you are currently shooting in is called Adobe RGB (_MG_4984.JPG) what you want to shoot in so that you don't have to rename your files is sRGB (IMG_4984.JPG). Adobe RGB is used for commercial Printing and other such things. Now then how to change it back:
1) Push menu button
2) scroll over to the second tab from the right (It's the one that looks like a camera with 2 stars to the right kinda like a colon)
3) Under the tab select Color Space then push the set button
4) select the desired color space which for you is the sRGB then press the set button.
5) shoot lots of pictures :-) if you are still confused try reading the instructions for your camera since you were to lazy to do so the first time around b/c this is where I got the answer to your question. Perhaps try rereading page 87. If you don't have a manual then ignore the last comment and go here for a copy

My camera takes picture but there all black? The

Last year my Canon PSA60 got the black screen in shooting mode. Menu display was normal and so the picture review mode.
Canon service center replaced the image sensor for free. When it happened again, I asked the service center for unit exchange (trade-in/upgrade program). Now I have my PowerShot S5IS. Good bye PSA60.

Canon has issued this in their notice page: http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/index.jsp?fuseaction=support&prod_type=notices-digitalcameras-lcd

Video shooting went from color to b/white - how do I get it back?

Press the Function button and scroll down to middle (fourth) icon on the left side of the LCD, the My Color mode. Is it set for BW or C? Use the left/right arrow key to select OFF. Press Function again.

Find out if there are sound settings in video mode, if not then maybe mic on camera has something covering it and should be cleaned.

Blurry video

Hi,

I think the issue is that you have just chosen the compact video setting.
To change it go to video mode and scroll the wheel to normal mode...thats it..

Magenta cast

I guess it could be several things; perhaps the color temperature of your lights is the culprit. At any rate, it shouldn't be too difficult to correct - here are two suggestions: 1) Shoot in RAW mode so that you can fine-tune color balance after the fact and don't have to get it right in-camera. 2) Shoot a black/white/grey card in the same lighting as your subject. (all three "colors" on the same card) You can then use the eyedropper tool in either curves or levels to set the black and white points, and the grey eyedropper tool (when clicked on the grey in your shot) should get rid of any color cast, magenta or otherwise. Good luck!
