I have a canon PC 850 copier. Yesterday when I turned it on it gave me the error message 003, then turned off. Can I do anything to fix it, or is the copier dead for good? Chris Edenfield c.edenfield25@comcast.net

    What do I do?

  • chrisped Oct 14, 2008

I plugged the copier back in, pushed reset, and the error 003 is still there. Now what?

  • chrisped Oct 14, 2008

Thanks. I guess the copier is dead. It has been very faithful for ten years.

Something is wrong with the Electronics Module or Wave Amplifier.
More then likely the electronic module has failed. Wave amplifier is pretty unlikely.
If you do not have a maintenance agreement or under warranty, that is a very expensive module to replace.

Try first unplugging power cord for 20 or 30 minutes, this will drain power from the printer and will reset it.

For your knowledge error message 003 on Canon copiers means hard disk error, the technician will reinstall the software on the HD and probably replace the disk itself if this is phisically damaged.
The disk is not an expensive part it costs $50/$80 the labor cost may vary.

About " fax engine failure", well, I am afraid that has got nothing to do with this.

You can ak a quote for the repair fee by calling the phone number listed on the owner manual.

The printer does not start because there is a fault.
The unplug method works only to reset the printer eeproms, in cause there is no fault, and the control panel is stuck with the error message.

I also did a mistake, error E003 is not an hard disk fault, that is E300 (data error).

E003 is a heating problem, from service manual:

    "Low Fixing temperature .
    • thermistor ( TH1 or TH2) not
    mounted properly, poor contact, or
    has open circuit.
    • The fixing heater has an open circuit
    or has a crack.
    • fixing heater drive circuit fault.
    • DC controller PCB fault.
    • image processor PCB fault."

    Explained in simple words:

The technician must check the fuser, the thermistor, and the fuser power board.
Often you solve the problem just replacing the fuser lamp (heating unit), but it is not necessarily so.

Sorry that the other expert got upset, but I fix printers for leaving (this for real) and I have never seen "fax engine failure" on any Canon.
Even searching on Google, or checking the service manualI still cannot find "fax engine failure" , fax failure on Canon is E64something (prob.E645).
As you have seen, I also did a mistake on my first post, what matters is that this things are not happening too often.

Thanks for the useful contact number :
1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) I suggest the user to call this number and get a quote for an eventual repair.

More, a printer does not have "Electronics Module or Wave Amplifier" as you can see experts post any kind of rubbish to earn their premium. That is not good and should not be done.

Regardin the copier, that is not dead, probably you just need to change the fuser lamp.
Here is the part for $130 labour will cost about $80.

Apologies about all bad info posted on this thread

    Thanks for using Fixya .

    Goodbye

    ginko,

remarkable that one would need to characterize information provided in good faith..the fax engine, FYI is resident on the hard drive. To suggest that the hard drive is a failure, without proper diagnostics, is oddly proposed. Of course, what would I KNOW; after only working on hard drives since the late 70's.

I stand by my contention, that with this particular device, that failure mode could be just as readily related to an issue with the data on the drive, and NOT be an outright hard drive failure..

and more to this equation..this is a copier not a printer..

btw, a little FYI on a product advisory for that model..

    Updated: January 18, 2007

    Affected products

    PC6, PC6RE, PC65, PC7, PC7RE, PC8, PC11, PC11RE, PC12, NP1010 and NP1020

Canon has issued a product advisory for a specific group of PC and
NP copiers manufactured between 1987 and 1998, which require an
inspection to address a potentially faulty internal connection. The
    models affected include the PC6, PC6RE, PC65, PC7, PC7RE, PC8, PC11,
    PC11RE, PC12, NP1010, NP1020 and C-100. On September 18, 2006, Canon,
in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
announced a voluntary recall for repair of such models.

A faulty connection involving the power cord for the fixing unit
heater may have occurred in some of these copiers at the time of
manufacture or during servicing. A limited number of these units may
present a risk of smoke emission or fire. Due to this risk, please
contact Canon immediately for a free repair.

Since the initial introduction of these products in 1987,
approximately 800,000 units have been shipped, and we have had six
reported incidents involving the NP1020. It is estimated that less than
70,000 units of these models are still in use.

This product advisory does not affect our imageRUNNER, Color
imageRUNNER, Color Laser Copier, imageCLASS, imagePROGRAF and other PC
    and NP models.

To the customers using the products in question, we extend our
sincerest apologies for any inconveniences resulting from this issue.
To ensure that all Canon customers can continue using Canon products
with confidence, we will make every effort to achieve the highest
levels of quality possible and request your continued support.

If you own one of these products, please contact Canon at
1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) for information on how to arrange your
    free repair.

Error 003

I am going to take a guess at this one..... You did not give a copier make or mode to give us a hint. A E-003 has to do with the fixing unit of a Canon copier..... It is not warming up to the right temp.... Good Luck

Paper stuck? error message 6A00, some ink jets need backup

Hi
Try this
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Canon PC-850

A E001 code is a fixing error code. It has to do with the heating lamp or the thermister or the thermal fuse or it could be all 3. Dose the fixing lamp turn ON. If no it is the fixing lamp or thermal fuse. If it turns ON and warms up and then codes out then it is the thermister. It could also be the whole fixing unit is bad.

Canon PC-850 E002 Error Code

After some searching, it appears that this error is common on all Canon Copiers. It means that "Fusing unit not heating up" This is most likely due to a bad fusing unit, or a component the fusing unit. Recommend replacing Fusing Unit.
