Camera wont run on batteries

The unit runs fine on mains adaptor but when on battery only, it fires up with a plain blue screen for a few seconds and then shuts down. I have tried two batteries (one is brand new) and I also have a separate charger.

I have cleaned the contacts as suggested but no use. The contacts must be OK as the batteries charge in the camera when connected to the mains adaptor.
I think the symptoms would normally be indicative of a very flat battery.

I would think that the cost of repair would be unjustified on this unit. I think I will return to a Sony unit.

I suppose it was the best you could do under the circumstances. I think that Guru 's suggestion is the nearest to the mark.

The problem could be the socket where you put the adapter in the camera. it has a switch that opens the battery to supply the camera and the power supply would be the one to supply the power, how ever, when you remove the plug from the adapter, the contacts should close back to connect the battery to supply the camera back.

it is very hard to repair that so i think you have to bring it to a technician.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Hi.

Seeing your problem i would advice you to get the device checked at a repair shop.
Either there is a problem in the wiring or a component inside has got damaged.

Hope this helps

Try cleaning the battery contacts inside camera battery socket with isopropyl alcohol, if that does not work, then there is a problem on battery wiring inside camera, the camera must be taken apart at a repair shop to fix this.

Ensure that it is not the battery, even if you tried two different batteries go to the shop and have a different one tested, or test your batteries on a similar camera.

If batteries and contacts are ok, then it is the board that connects to the batteries. This has usually few capacitors, diods and one IC to stabilise voltage to battery, and to stop reverse charging when the battery is full.
Probably one of those component had blown, on board components must be tested with a multimeter, to find the defective one, de solder it from board, and replace it.

Unless you have done similar kind of jobs before, you risk to reduce your camera to a bunch of bits and screws if you try doing it yourself.

I suggest calling the service number printed on the user manual, to get details on service, and eventually ask if you can purchase an extended guaranty.

Before you get a new battery, have you tried running it off the mains (if this is possible) ? This would at least rule out battery problems if the situation persists.

JVC Video camera GZ-HD7U does not run off of new (tested GOOD) batteries. Only runs off direct plugin. Is there a fuse or something I can fix to have it run off the battery? Don't suggest new batterie

Does the battery make good contact with the pins in the camera? Try putting a bit of pressure on it or move it etc to see if the unit comes to life, if it does even momentarily you have a loose connection at one of the pins. Since you have a second identical camera check the continuity reading between all the pins on the good camera and then the bad and compare the two should be exactly the same. If not there's an internal problem wit the unit.

When I connect the battery charger to the camcorder it doesnt even even show that I have the battery charger hooked up nor does it charge the camera. Could that be a problem with the camera or the charger?

I got hold of Canon support. I had the same problem. Got a new battery, fully charged and would not run the unit. Canon told me to do a system reset. pull out main battery and aux battery (bottom of unit) and to power switch to aux for 90 seconds. the put batteries back and it should work. Hope this helps.

Hi, My batteries will not power up the unit. My a/c adaptor will power up the unit. My batteries will power up my friends unit ok. Any suggestions?

Hello. Since you know the batteries are good this is what I want you to do. Use the eraser end of a common pencil and scrub up the battery contacts inside your camera. This will remove an almost invisible layer of corrosion that is probably the culprit. after you clean, reinsert the batteries and you should be up and running. Regards, Joe

Battery problem

The little silver battery is a back up to keep the clock etc running when the main battery is removed.

If it runs on the mains adaptor it's probably the battery that has failed.

Sony DCR-VX1000E batteries

Li-Ion batteries cannot be charged efficiently with power supplies or NiCad chargers, they need a pulse charger dedicated to Li-Ion batteries. Also, there is a danger in charging with other sources as Li-Ion batts. will catch fire or explode if not charged properly. Please get a charger that is made for those batteries
