The printer is causing ghosting (fading) on the right side of the paper only. It is getting to the point that you can not read what is printed on the right side of the paper for two inches. Replacing the toner does not work, although our paper looks like ghosting all over when the toner does needs to be replaced. I feel that I need to clean something to correct this problem, but I am clueless as to what to do. Thanks for your help in this matter.
Ghosting image usually cause by the toner leak into the fuser assembly and can not be clean. The next step I would recommend is to replace fuser assembly and a pressure roller at the same time.
ETA install fuser asembly about an hour if you know what you are doing. Hope this would help....
Normally in my experience this is caused by cheap refilled toner. Have you took the toner out and tried blowing the printer out with can air? Is there a lot of toner inside the printer? If there is then I would have to point to the fuser. We have replaced them before and it is a pain in this model. How long have you had it? How many pages have you print?

Normally ghosting is caused by a bad fuser. Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1) Print something. As the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.. Look at the paper. If there is no ghosting, the fuser is bad. If there is ghosting, could be a cartridge drum.
Follow these steps print a Print quality troubleshooting
page to identify which print cartridge is causing the issue.
Click the Help
folder, and then click the Troubleshooting
, to print the page.
The page prints
five bands of color, which are divided into four overlapping sections.
By examining each section, you can isolate the problem to a particular

Ghosting is a condition where theimage prints properly, but a much lighter copy of the image also printselsewhere. This can be due to a problem with the power outlet that is supplyingpower to the printer. Check the power outlet by plugging in a different printerto see if the same results occur. Ghosting can also be caused when consumableprinter parts (such as the drum or imaging kit) are near the end of their life. All of the consumable parts in a printer are rated for a certain number ofpages. Once a printer gets near that magic number, you'll need to replace thoseparts to eliminate ghosting. This will help. good luck.
For ghost printing, i suggest you clean the fuser roller inside the cartridge compartment by a cotton swab with water and remove all the toner dirt on the roller. For faded print outs, the problem is the toner is near to end, Just replace new toner cartridge. Try also to shake the cartridge to distribute evenly the toner power.
The best way to test for ghosting or Double Imaging caused by the fuser is to run a copy and shut the machine off just as the copy starts to exit the copier. Then open the right side door and open the fuser gate with all the teeth on it. This will release most of the fusing pressure. Gently pull the paper backwards out of the machine. About the bottom 1/2 of the page will have NOT gone thru the fuser yet and you can tell if the ghosting is present. If it is not then the ghosting is coming from the fuser. Note that ghosting caused by the fuser usually does not show up evenly across the whole page. It is usually in bands, lines or one one side or the other.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
Have you tried another toner cartridge? And when you say it has faded characters in the background? Does it look like it's reprinting the image kind of? If so, you will need the fuser unit replaced. The fuser is responsible for melting the toner to the paper, when it goes bad it can cause "ghosting" meaning it reprints previous images. A technician would be needed at this point, the part number for the fuser is RM1-1289.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need.
Wrong paper type can cause this, also if it is damp or too thick. Also
check that you have the correct type of paper (thickness) selected in
the driver. Ghosting can also be caused by a faulty drum unit, since you just replaced it maybe there is warranty left on it?.
The ghosting is most likely the toner or the fuser
This is the test to determine toner or fuser issue. Print a test page When you hear the paper feed into the machine open the top or front to stop the machine Remove the toner cart. You should be able to see the page with printing on it. (This is before the page hits the fuser) If you can see the defect on the page the problem is most likely the toner cartridge but NOT the fuser. If the page is clean the problem is most likely the fuser. Hope this helps
