If cleaning with a cleaner disk and solution did not work, then you have to clean the lens directly.

Remove the cover and access the inside of the DVD, unplug power first.

Use soft cotton sticks and isopropyil alcohol to clean the lens, here is a picture of the lens pickup:

As usual do the job at your risk, if you want to call for repair you can use the number listed in the owner manual.

If direct cleaning does not work, the lens pickup should be replaced, after testing that signal from and to lens is OK, but that is a job for a technician.

I'm installing a biostar a78ldm2s and everything turns on but I keep getting a read disk error on the hard drives that I try to use. I've tried 5 different hard drives and get the same result.

Hello here you can download a manual:

http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/support/download.php

By entering the right mainboard number.

Try to set the bios to factory settings.Load default settings.
And set the boot order: first boot device:dvd, second, the harddrive.
If you are using a IDE drive make sure its set as master.
A sata drive does not have that function.
Make sure the windows disk is clean and without scratces.

Here is a youtube video that shows you how:

Good luck

My DVD player won't read, keeps saying disk error

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

Disk read error, turn console on goes to system configuration press x goes to mem card and says reading disk then says disk read error

This is a result of one of two things-

1) Your disc is dirty, damaged, or scratched. To fix this just clean it gently with a wet cloth, if it still doesnt work you can take it to a game store to have it cleaned there. It is possible that it is scratched to much and is unable to read at all.

2) Your Playstation 2's reading laser has become damaged or dirty. I suggest blowing air through the system with your mouth or preferably a can of compressed air which can be purchase at most retail stores.

This error seems most likely to be a disc issue.

Unrecognized disk error reading

HI. In most cases, this will lead to the replacement of the entire DVD ROM drive. The issue is with the lens sector, or optical assembly. Try to wake the lens assembly with a cleaning disk. This may correct the reading error. If the error continues after the cleaning, this will confirm that the optics are damaged.

NOTE( to eliminate a disk issue, try to use another game disk to confirm that the unit will not recognize other disk as well.)

My PS2 wont read any disk.

HI, the optics assembly has failed. the actual optical lens assembly will need to be replace in this case. you can try to clean the lens with a cleaning disk.. this may wake the laser. if the cleaning doesn't produce results, replacing the optical lens assembly will be the next move.

Disk Error

If the camcorder does not read any disk, and makes noise when reading a disk and does not start reading, then the problem concerns either motor assembly or lens pickup.
If the disk is spinning and lens had been cleaned already, then the lens must be replaced.

"bad disk" of error

Before you go replacing your stereo, try cleaning your laser lens with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. let it dry for a few mins and try a music disc again.
