I have the base with 4 extra cordless units. After about 3 months my first cordless unit lost its charge and the battery wont hold another charge... Then one by one it happened to all of my cordless, no i have to answer the phone on speaker... To buy new batteries is almost the same price to buy a whole new unit!

Is the battery in the phone charged?
when not in use leave it in its holder so that it is kept charged.
How old is the battery?
If after charging it still makes no difference then you need to buy new batterty as the old battery won't be holding charge.

Is is possible to have a second cordless phone?

You may not be able to add to your current phone, but multiple-handset cordless phones are widely available. Just add extra handsets as you need them up to the system capacity. Just visit any large retailer for a selection, or check online shopping sites.

As far as tuning goes, you can't tune the frequency per se, but many cordless phones have a "channel" button. These let you switch channels while you're on a call if you experience interference.

Phillips CD6452B Cordless phone was just purchased yesterday. It rings when we get a call, but we cant answer. We also cant make calls. It keeps saying "not responding". what could be the problem?

Bad antenna or you didn't let it charge for 12-24 hours as stated in manual for set-up. Some phones have to be set in the "charging dock" so the handset will be recognized by the charging dock.
