Why am I getting an Image Database File error on my Sony camera?

Would have been easier for me, when you had given the model number, but I give it a try. Most of the time you get these messages, when the file number is exceeding 999 or 9999. Or when the card or disk is full. Please try to recover all existing files from the memory (card and disk) and then try to format all memory devices.

Why am I getting am "Image Database File error" on my camera? I push enter and then I get an "Image Database File recovery failed". Can still take and save pictures but can not record videos do to problem.

Hi Linda,

If you get into the practice of FORMATING the memory card IN THE CAMERA after transferring the images and videos to your computer, many file related errors will go away. Formatting provides a "fresh start" for the camera to work with the memory card. Some older Sony cameras worked with optical media (CD / DVD), if this is the case for you, you may just have a bad disk. Insert a high quality disc as recommended by the camera and you should be good again.

Have sony sx 63 camcorder. Want to view movies from a jvc camcorder on a pny sdhc but i get the message to create a database image file. Will this erase the movies on the memory stick?

I'm not sure how you're trying to view these files but assuming you've connected your camera to your pc and trying to view them by accessing them.

If so, the problem is that you're PC doesn't have the correct codecs to play your videos. The easiest way around this is to go to, download and install VLC media player. Excellent software and free.

left click on the "safely remove hardware" icon (see attached image). Select your camera from the pop-up list (it may be listed as a drive). Wait a few seconds until computer says, "safe to remove hardware."

NOTE: if you have any applications open, e.g., photoshop, that are accessing files on your camera, the computer will indicated it can't stop the drive. Close all the applications and try again.

If that fails, shut down your pc and unplug the USB connection.

I am having major trouble uploading all my pictures from my sony camera into my computer, it keeps stopping at 30 pictures and doesnt upload the rest fo the pictures?? what could be wrong

It could be an error on the 31st picture. Try accessing the camera thru My Computer and download the pictures by dragging them to a folder on the desktop. If that also fails, try skipping the 31st picture and download from 32nd onwards. When successfully downloaded, the card should be formatted in the camera.
