Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I tried to use a generic brand ink cartridge in my Canon MP520, which I couldn't get to work. I then gave up on it and installed a genuine canon cartridge, and while the printers says that the ink is full and doesn't record an error while printing, it is not printing black ink.

You do not say if your printer has it's own print heads or if they are on the cartridge.. if your printer has the print heads then the generic cartridge has probably blocked the heads nosils (cheap ink is NOT the same as the real thing and is usually sub-standard) use your maintenance section on either the printer or it's software on the computer and run head cleaning routine several times and do the occasional test print to see if it improves... hopefully you have not damaged the print head

Why don't new ink cartridges work?

If they are not genuine brand name products specifically for the printer (eg HP ink for HP printers, Canon inks for Canon printers) they will not work in your printer. Don't ever buy some generic substitute brand which is cheap or you will have issues.

When you buy non -genuine product and fit them in your printer most printers are now programmed to reject them and some are programmed to completely disable the machine so it is totally unusable..

If you are using only genuine product, then remove all ink cartridges from the printer and close it up. Turn the power off at the printer and at the mains. Then power it on again and refit all ink cartridges in the recommended manner.
There is a manual that came with your printer and you should follow the instructions in the manual when you run into these kinds of problems.

Unrecognized ink cartridge

This model Canon/Epson printer may only let you use genuine Canon printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the Canon cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled. This means you need to purchase and install genuine printer cartridges.

What is error e5 in mp 198 printer

E5 - The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed , or the ink cartridges are not installed properly..

  • In certain models of Canon Pixma printers such as the Canon MP160 and Canon MP150, you may receive an E5 error when trying to print. In this state, you will not be able to use any of the functions of your printer. The error itself is an ink cartridge error. It may be that you are using generic or off-brand ink cartridges in your Canon Pixma printer. Canon Pixma printers do not work with other brands of print cartridges; invest in Canon brand ink cartridges and this should take care of your problem.
