Hi,
In your address (url bar) bar clear it and type in just these numbers as it appears here 192.168.1.1
This will take you to the routers setup/security utility. Once there, you can set a wep key or whatever else you want to do.

Good afternoon im hoping you might be able to help me. I had received a new wifi network name an password idont know how to change from the old one to the new one

Hi Judith,

you need to login to the router admin page to be able to do that. you will have to connect the computer to the router with the help of an ethernet cable to do that and have the ip address of the router and the old password.

call 1-877-805-1027 for step by step assistance.

My computer has stopped letting me connect to the internt

Hi jbourne158
Could be your Ethernet card
Could be your modem
could be your Internet Provider
Could be your browser .
I would begin with the browser , change it or reinstall the current one or a previous version of it .
Best regards ,

How do I secure the wireless router with a pass word

in esence what you do is:

1. go into configuration page (check your router manual or documentation)
2. go into wireless
3. change the defaul SSID (that is the network name or Access point name or your router name)
4. make a note of the SSID you have defined (you needed when setting up your client computer)
5. if you want you can stop broadcasting the SSID (recommeded.. that's why you noted that on previous step
4. set up your encription method (wep, wpa, wpa2).. wp2 is recommeded or wpa if wpa2 is not avaliable or wep if that's the only option as it is better than nothing.
5. configure and note you passphrase/key (you need this to configure your client computer)

this is a good article that will give you some fundaments

and this is a walk through securing a router with an example for a popular linksys router:

and this is a wlak through securing a router with an example for a polar d-link router:

other routers may be different but in esence is the same.

let us know how it went!! good luck!!

The resource cannot be displayed The page you are looking for cannot be opened by your browser because it has a file name extension that your browser does not accept....

RESOLUTION loadTOCNode(1, 'resolution'); To resolve this problem, make sure that the Accept header of the client request matches the MIME type that is specified for the requested content file name extension on the server. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Start IIS Manager. To do this, click Start, click Run, type inetmgr.exe, and then click OK. 2. In IIS Manager, expand the server name, expand Web sites, and then click the Web site that you want to modify. 3. In Features View, double-click MIME Types. 4. Double-click the MIME type that you want to modify. 5. In the Edit MIME type dialog box, type the appropriate MIME type for the content file name extension in the MIME Type box.

Note You can also set the MIME type of the content file name extension to */* to accept any MIME type

I need to have our linkys secured lock. How can we have this locked. PLease help! Thank you, Patty

You may go to this link below to setup wireless security or you may call 8003267114 which is the Linksys free support hotline. If you will follow the link below i would recommend the WPA only. If your router is more than a few years old, please give me the model number as there is a different setup for that.

Open the router page 192.168.1.1 >> type this in the internet explorer address bar.
1. the Home Page is displayed. Click Wireless from the left menu
2.The settings to Wireless section of Router appear.Click Channel and SSID.
3.Changing the Wireless Network Name (SSID)
To identify your wireless network, a name called the SSID is used. The SSID is your network name. The default network name of the Router is Belkin N1 Wireless followed by six digits that are unique to your Router. Your network name will look something like Belkin_N1_Wireless_123456.
You can change this to anything you choose, or you can leave it unchanged. Keep in mind, if you decide to change your wireless network name, and there are other wireless networks operating in your area, your network name needs to be different from other wireless networks that may be operating in your area. To change the SSID, type in the SSID that you want to use in the SSID field and click Apply Changes.
The change is immediate. If you make a change to the SSID, your wireless-equipped computers may also need to be reconfigured to connect to your new network name. Refer to the documentation of your wireless network adapter for information on making this change.
4.Changing the Wireless Channel
There are a number of operating channels from which you can choose—in the United States, there are 11 and in the United Kingdom (and most of Europe), there are 13.
In a small number of other countries, there are other channel requirements. Your Router is configured to operate on the proper channels for the country in which you reside. The channel can be changed if needed. If there are other wireless networks operating in your area, your network should be set to operate on a channel that is different than the other wireless networks.
Select channel from Wireless Channel drop-down menu. Click Apply Changes.
5.Using the Wireless Mode Switch
This switch allows you to set the Router’s wireless modes. There are several modes. Note: Some modes may require firmware updates to be enabled.
1) 802.11g only
Setting the Router to this mode will allow only 802.11g-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out any slower 802.11b devices.
2) 802.11g & 802.11b
Setting the Router to this mode will let 802.11g- and 802.11b-compliant devices to join the network.
3) 802.11n & 802.11g
Setting the Router to this mode will allow N1/draft 802.11n- and 802.11g-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out any slower 802.11b devices.
4) 802.11n only
Setting the Router to this mode will allow only N1/draft 802.11n-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
5) Off
This mode will turn OFF the Router’s access point, so no wireless devices can join the network. Turning off the wireless function of your Router is a great way to secure your network when you are away from home for a long period of time, or don’t want to use the wireless feature of the Router at a certain time.
Select wireless mode from Wireless Mode drop-down menu. Click Apply Changes.
6. Using the Broadcast SSID Feature
Note: This advanced feature should be employed by advanced users only. For security, you can choose not to broadcast your network’s SSID. Doing so will keep your network name hidden from computers that are scanning for the presence of wireless networks. To turn off the broadcast of the SSID, remove the check mark from the box next to Broadcast SSID, and then click Apply Changes.
The change is immediate. Each computer now needs to be set to connect to your specific SSID; an SSID of ANY will no longer be accepted. Refer to the documentation of your wireless network adapter for information on making this change

Need to get a wireless password

If you have a router without a password, users connected to the router can change your settings. I recommend enabling WPA security with a pass phrase and a password on the router. You might consider changing the name of the admin account to something else too.
