Candy CPCA250 GB Freezer feezing but fridge not cold

Hi,
I recently had a problem with my Candy fridge freezer (it defrosted overnight and wasnt cooling at all) and a repair shop diagnosed a thermostat problem. I have replaced the thermostat, Now the freezer freezes without any problems but the fridge does not go cold at all.
Also the compressor is running constantly

Any help gratefully received.
Many thanks
Jon

    Hi huuum

Many thanks for your prompt response and your suggestions. This fridge freezer runs just off one thermostat, which has been set to max for a period of time, but unfortunately this made no diference.

Last night, I transferred everything from the fridge freezer to an old spare one I've got, to see if the fridge cooled down that way - it cooled down a little, however the compressor was still running non-stop.

As for the air vents in the freezer, unfortunately I can't see any - I'm guessing these are behind the panels somewhere!!

Many thanks for your time with this matter, but unfortunately, it hasn't resolved the issue

Thanks huuum - The unit is about 5 years old so as the new thermostat was only going to cost $45, I thought I'd go for it - especially as it's A rated for energy and has always been very good.

As it is, it could be the easiest for me just to purchase a new one, but obviously will ty and avoid that if a cheap fix is possible!!!

    Thanks again

    Jon

Hello jonnyclewlow
Welcome,

You said, you recently had a problem with my Candy fridge freezer (it defrosted overnight and wasnt cooling at all) and a repair shop diagnosed a thermostat problem. I have replaced the thermostat, Now the freezer freezes without any problems but the fridge does not go cold at all.
Also the compressor is running constantly

This is my first thought

Fresh Food temperature is
too warm. Freezer
temperature is satisfactory.

1. Fresh Food control is set too
warm.
2. Set fresh food control to a colder setting. Allow 24
hours for temperature to stabilize.

3.Then see if you do not have your freezer articles packed full up to the top, or covering the cold air vents usually found in the rear of the freezer compartment.

The fridge and the freezer share the cold air so the air must not be restricted from travel form the freezer to the fridge and back!
This would also cause the compressor to run none stop trying to cool the fridge!
So check your air vents in the freezer.
I'll bet you did not know they were there !
Most of us never notice!
Hope this works for you.
Please let me know that one of these solutions worked for you!
or if you have any questions.
Thank You, huuum

ere is an interesting report I just read!

    Jon:
    I forgot to ask you!
    How old is your freezer?

    Repair or replace your appliances?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator or Freezer

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
    in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

    Follow these guidelines:

    When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
    Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

    When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!
Please do not for get to give a rating before you sign off!
    Thank You, HUUUM

I have a candy fridge freezer - the freezer is fine. When the fridge to turned up to max - the food in it is not cold. How can I resolve this? If I defrost the fridge - could this help? Thks

Defrosting the freezer will temporally solve the problem. There could be a problem with the defrost cycle or the evaporator fan. a technician can help you there

Old fridge freezer (8 yearold approx.) not cold enough to properly feeze contents - cold but not cold enough

Most times that is a defrost problem. Look on rear or bottom panel of freezer and if frost is sticking to that wall one of the three components of the defrost has failed. Beginning with defrost timer or ADC, Adaptive Defrost Control, Defrost Heater or the Defrost Thermostat. Let me know your model number and I wan tell you exactly what your model has, Thanks, Sea Breeze

My side by side fridge, fridge side is feezing up...

HI,GOOD JOB CLEANING THE COILS IT HELPS ALOT,MOST TIMES IF YOUR FREEZER SIDE IS FREEZING UP THERE ARE 5 THINGS TO CHECK,WHAT MAKE,MOST GE HEARTERS GO BAD FIRST,EASTEST TO CHECK FIRST IS THE FAN,OPEN FREEZER DOOR,IS THE FAN RUNNING,SOME MODELS YOU WILL HAVE TO HOLD THE FREEZER BUTTON DOWN FIRST,MOST ON INSIDE TOP,NEXT REMOVE FREEZER BACK PANEL WALL,IF YOU SEE A SHEET OF ICE,YOUR DEFROST HEATER(ON BOTTOM OR SIDE) AND THE HEATER TERMANATOR(LITTLE ROUND CLIP ON BALL WILL HAVE TO BE CHECKED WITH A OMES METER,YOU CAN DEFROST IT WITH A HAIR DRYER,WHEN DEFROSTED YOU CAN SEE IF THE DRAIN(MIDDLE BOTTOM OF FREEZER IS CLOGGED,LAST DEFROST TIMER(TOP FRONT,BACK BOTTOM,INSIDE FRIG.TURN CLOCKWISE SLOW TILL YOU HEAR A CLICK,SEE IF FREEZER FAN WENT OFF,WAIT 25 MINUTES,SEE IF FAN COMES BACK ON IF SO IT'S NOT THE TIMER,LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND AND I WILL HELP YOU FARTHER-MIKE

Fridge Feezes

My Candy fridge freezer done the same. After a bit of investigation, I found that the little plastic shaft from the front temperature dial that connects to the thermostat has snapped. I merely glued it back together and it worked fine.

In essence, the thermostat was turned on to super all the time, and turning the dial anti-clockwise did nothing as it wasn't connected to the thermostat.

Very flimsy I say.
