Ensure the timing is set on the correct revolution, 1st cylinder piston should be top dead center, with the inlet valve closed and outlet valve towards opening. Timing mark on pulley should be at center or at 0 (zero).

If engine has a mechanical distributor, the rotor should be pointing towards the number 1 spark lead, in the correct firing order.

Ensure valve clearances are correct while cold. Then readjusted when warm

I have a 99 Silverado 4x4 it grinds when I put it in reverse you can feel it ingage but grinds and when it shifts into 2nd it does the same thing I manually put it in 2nd and it makes a clicking sound

A MANUAL TRANS MISSION SAME AS MY 2004.
LEARN THAT REVERSE IS THE canary GEAR.(COAL MINERS)
IT HAS NO SYNCRO RINGS. SO LOVE TO GRIND FIRST.

I used to drive a crash box , ford 1958 20ton dump truck at 16 years old, so knew how to double clutch 15 speed (5 +3)brownie box

Step1:
first is the slave cylinder and MC must not be leaking fluid.
if yes they are bad,. if MC levels drop BINGO step1 FAILS FIX ME.

is MC reservoir full>? look first. my silly jeep steals fluid from my brake master, but only the top 1/2" is stolen , cute tick that.

test 2: SLAVE CYL. looking , 2 person test.
and the slave must move 1 full inch. or the clutch will be DEAD.
do not buy a new clutch , make sure the slave works 100% first.
my 4wd jeep takes me 10hours to do clutch and I will never skip step1 or 2, .
MY TRUCK IS NOT A CABLE LINKED CLUTCH.
it is MC + slave.

MY DODGE NEON 2005 MAKES A CLICKING NOISE, USES OIL LIKE YOU DO GAS AND OVER HEATS, IVE TAKEN TO CAR DEALERSHIP TO HAVE FIXED AND IT IS ONLY TEMP FIXED AND GOES RIGHT BACK TO THE OLD WAY.

It could be your timing belt .That would make it burn oil and the noise could be your valves hitting the pistons. Take the spark plugs out and see if they are black that will tele you if they are burning oil. The timing belt should be changed after 80,000 miles .

I have a 2014 Escalade ESV with 4,000 miles and the ride is rough!! I have complained from the start and the dealer put new tyres on still the same. I have taken it back 5 times .

It could also be the wrong shocks on it. I would suggest going to the dealership and driving a different one of the same model. If it's different feel than your's, have the dealer drive both and explain why.

Transmission Tubing/Oil Leak

Take it to the original dealer and explain the problem. Give them the first opportunity to fix the mistake...and make sure you let them know it will be the second time you've taken it to them for the same problem.

Car stalled then died

Hello, I could be your timing they typically recommend changing them between 60 to 90k depending on the type of car. The cost for this would also range from dealership @ around $450 to $600 for Belt and labor. You could prob find a smaller shop that would do it for around $250 to $400 but I would ask around for recommendations. Depending on the type of car the job should take around 4 or 5 hours labor. The shop typical labor charge depending on where you live ranges from $65hr to $85hr + Parts. If you could get to you timing cover pretty easy I would pull it off and check the belt for cracks or missing teeth but this can sometimes be a job itself depending on the job.

Smaller things I would check before jumping in on the Timing Belt.

1. Fuel Filter
2. Spark Plug Wires
3. Pull a Plug and insure its not coated
4. Check to see if you are getting a good strong Spark
5. Check your oil to insure you have no water in it. (If water you could have a blown head gasket)
6. These symptoms could also come from bad fuel injectors

I hope this info helps you and have a great weekend.
