I have had a 32gb creative zen for just over 2 years.
basically, the screen now constantly displays a message saying 'switching display to a/v out .. and the screen goes black. It flicks on and off all the time which is pretty annoying. Everything else works fine.

Zen should have a reset button on the side, it is a very small hole
that you will need a pin to push the button inside, hold the button for
about 30 seconds. This should reset the player.
For the lock error or if
you happen to see an error message on screen saying system locked unable
to shut down or you cannot shut down your unit and a picture of a lock
appears near the batterry indicator on the left side of your screen -
Simply move the lock button on top of the unit to the left onto the
orange area and this will fix your problem. This slide button is located
next to the lock picture located on the top of your unit.
First of all, I hope you mad a backup of it's content, becouse there is no other way, it need to be fomated from it's service menu.

Update the firmware, available at support.creative.com:
Creative Zen Try another PC or another USB port Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged Reset Check for firmware update on Creative's website Get Recovery Tool from Creative Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If all else fails, check with this guy: http://www.mycreativefansite.com/2007/05/myzenchecker-tools-guide-to-problem.html
