Ahh..yess...that can happen...try it with the restore disc, and press F2 while booting up. This will take you to the settings and bios, where you can disable the hard drive, and make the cd the boot device..do you know of this area in the computer?

and go into the safe mode or
directory services restore mode
instead and delete the itunes and try to restore back a day or two

this may then be ok

Cant restore computer...forgot administrator password and disc drive inop...what do i do.

If you have the restore discs, you may be able to use an external disc drive (i.e., USB).

If your BIOS will recognize it on startup, you will need to configure the boot order. A message should appear telling you what key to press when booting on your BIOS splash screen (you need to watch for it, it disappears quickly), generally this is F10 or something similar.

If your computer will not recognize an external disc drive, you may be able to get a new disc drive from Toshiba by calling their support.

Hi,
If you are getting a message that requires to put in the operating system CD to repair windows . this means windows has crashed. You can try pressing the F8 key slowly 5 -6 times as soon as you power on the computer. You would get a screen that says Advanced options menu. Try selecting last know good configuration. If the same doesn't work. You would have to invest in an external optical drive(USB) and a windows xp cd to run repairs. Alternatively you can call the manufacturer in case they have carry in repairs for the notebook.

Thanks for using Fixya

In set up, set your your optical drive to be the first boot option and put your restore disk in the drive then reboot.

This should then read from your disk before trying to access any hare drives.
