The hard drive don't running

Check connections. If that doesn't work, try putting it in a different computer. If that doesn't work it's probably broken.

If BIOS doesn't detect it either the data/power cables are bad or not making a good connection, or the drive has failed.

Nexxtech external USB hard drive stopped working. Light comes on but drive does not seem to activate and produces no response in the laptop.

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem

you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps

Pros: Lots of space, very low price, doesn't require outside power
Cons: Sometimes stops working, no firewire (but still a quick transfer speed)
Summary: This doesn't require outside power, but sometimes you need to hook it up to 2 USB ports. The USB cable has 2 heads. Sucks when I only have 3 USB ports on my laptop.

Also sometimes it spontaneously stops communicating with the computer. I don

Try this. Download a program called discovery from WD, it is free. When installed, plug in the drive and run the discovery program. Your drive should work properly. Please let me know how it works for you.

Clicking noise and drive not registering when plugged into computer

That is called the "click of death" and it means the hard drive cannot tell where the head is so it's scanning back and forth looking for line 0. This is often terminal. Plugging the drive directly into a computer and using recovery software (like spinrite) may work, but it's likely the hard drive is shot.

Hi,

According to your problem first check the hard drive status and make sure that it is ok. If it doesn't detect in bios setup then you can change the cable of the hard drive. Also make sure that the DVD Rom working fine. If the hard drive doesn't detect while you begin setup then clear the bios first. Then reset the bios properly. You may need a firmware update also. If you can not continue the setup then break the partition of the hard drive. You can use partition break up software, like partition magic etc also. If it doesn't solve your problem then you may need to replace the hard drive. To check the hard drive status you can try with another OS installation. Best of luck.

Let's try to get it recognized. I Presume you are using Windows... Make sure that your drive is connected and turned on. Go to your Control Panel, Then " Add Hardware". Just follow the prompts from there. To make sure it's recognized, go to your Desktop. Press "Start " and right-click " My Computer ". Now go to the last entry " Properties " , Then " Hardware " then " Device Manager ". If it still doesn't show them, I'll suggest you check your cables. Hope this helps. Hello,
it is a known issue that these particular drives sometimes don't get recognized by the Operating System, after coming out of Sleep, Stand By, or Hibernation.
Simply try to disconnect and reconnect the drive again in the USB port, if this doesn't work then, Disconnect it from the USB and connect it to the Firewire. if this doesn't work then, Restart the computer.
It should solve the problem.

My hard drive is clicking alot & I am getting alot of freeze ups/ super slow response time , white faded screens etc. Need to replace?

the clicking noise is the reader arm jumping across platters on your hard drive you have a dirty hard drive first clean all the dust from your computer specifically from around your hard drive using a high powered suction vacuum cleaner or a fine air blower from a air compressor making sure there is no MOISTURE in the air lines then give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free it up
test or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive make sure the connections are securely seated and they are not bad/faulty and no dust built up I would simply replace them

try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f this should schedule to happen on reboot which will scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or
click startcontrol panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input will damage your computer
then you should test or replace all leads make sure they are securely seated and are not bad/faulty that are attached to your (((motherboard to your hard drive)))
defragment your hard drive will speed up your computer
then defragment your hard drive

scroll to the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click you can select task manager applications also processes you will see whats running on your computer you might have virus slowing your computer also select users you will see who is using your computer

hope this helps
