usually on the Toshiba laptops you need to hold down the function key to get your numeric pad working. try looking for a key labeled 'fn' down to the left of the space bar. Once holding it down, try using the number pad
If you have a desktop or a keyboard with the numeric pad, you can enter characters (accented) with an ALT key combination. If on the other hand you have a laptop and no numeric key pad, there should be an Fn key sequence (maybe Fn+F10) that locks the keyboard on the overlaid numeric pad. Better still, display the characters table and pop it open whenever you need a special character.
Best way to check the numeric keypad is to press the last 2 buttons simultaneously. (7-8 + 9-0) If you hear the door lock, then the keypad is working. If this is the case, it's possible that the previous owner added their own code. This is done when applying the original code and then immediately entering their own code. This is undone by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10mins. This should restore the keyless entry back to the factory defaults meaning your original code should now work.
Hope this solves your problem. Best of luck and please post back with any other questions.
