How to solder a silver tea pot to it's cap

Due to the size and the metal, you have to use a micro torch. I would take it to a jewelry shop that fixes rings and pay to have it done because the heat can warp and discolor the metal.

Hi im wondering if you can help me out with a problem im facing. What kind of method do i use to put butterfly clasp pins on badges (metal)

Use a tin solder on JB Weld for your application. Make sure the metal is cleaned and prepped or it won't take.

How is a soldering iron put together

a soldering iron is like a light bulb
power goes in one end and heat comes out the other - EXCEPT if it lights up u have trouble.
It is simply a nichrome wire wrapped around a metal tip
I have irons that r direct 110V AC and one that is 5V DC
some heads r 24V powered thru a transformer in the case.

Hi i have an old weller soldering iron and it wont light up, do i have to have the 2 slide controls in a certain position

A soldering iron is composed of a heated metal tip and an insulated handle. Heating is often achieved electrically, by passing an electric current (supplied through an electrical cord or battery cables) through the resistive material of a heating element. Another heating method includes combustion of a suitable gas, which can either be delivered through a tank mounted on the iron (flameless), or through an external flame.

Having trouble with solder sticking with metal to metal applications

Soldering is intended for soldering alloys together such as copper, silver, gold....solder does not stick well to steel and aluminum...also, you need to use a flux when soldering...this flux cleans the connections of impurities and allows the solder to stick to the metals to be joined...Judging by the iron that you have...it looks like it is mainly used for very small soldering applications where not too much heat is required...If you want to solder larger items(such as soldering to a metal chassis) then I would recommend using a soldering iron or soldering gun with more wattage

We can't keep the tip tinned, what do we need to do?

Clean the end of the tip with a smooth file down to bear metal heat it up and retin the end with fresh solder. Are you using multicore solder with resin flux ? some old solder does not have any flux in it.

Cordless Battery-Powered Soldering Iron wont turn on anymore

You can replace the battery with other new batteries, that way, you can tell whether it is the rechargeable batteries or the iron that are faulty.

What type of solder is the best to usefor the weller pro soldering tool cht100

It's not the solder you use for the soldering tool but the correct solder for the JOB you are doing with the tool.
Read the packages and pick the right mix/flux/thickness etc for the metal/connectors/etc you are soldering.
