Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Janitrol (goodman) GMS9. Two years old. When thermostat is set low the ICM diagnostic LED is continuous on ("no signal from thermostat"), when thermostat is turned up then LED gives 3 flashes. Manual says that 3 flashes means "Pressure switch circuit not closed. Induced draft blower is operating", however the ID-Blower is NOT running. I ran a 110Volt wire directly to the ID-Blower to see if it runs independent of the control and it does run. I drew vacuum on both pressure switches and they do close and open ok. The switches also operated when I ran the blower with direct wire. I checked the condensate drain, intake and flue, no blockage, but I'm sure the only reason it is giving the "pressure switch" related error is that the blower isn't running therefore the switches can't close. I checked all wiring for thermostat and checked all connectors for tight connection, check for good electrical grounding at all ground wires. I installed a new thermostat but no change. I checked the voltage going to the ID-blower from the control module when first powering up the unit and before the fault lights register and it is only seeing about 9 volts from the controller. Is this likely a fault in the Integrated control module causing the ID-Blower to fail to turn on? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Mine is also two years old...coincidence? After bypassing the pressure switch it will work, but still not as consistently as it should. It was 20 degrees outside today and when i returned home from work it was 51 inside with the tstat set for 68.

My central heating is on lockout and the burner is with red light

A sampling of various codes on a furnace

Read one LED flash that stays on continuously to mean your furnace has no signal coming from the thermostat and will not operate. Turn the power off and check the thermostat for improper settings or connections.

Interpret one LED flash that blinks on and off to mean your furnace has locked out because it could not ignite after three tries, and must be reset. Interrupt power to your furnace for 20 seconds or lower the thermostat so your furnace does not try to heat, then reset the thermostat to the previous setting. After one hour of lockout, your furnace will automatically reset itself and try to operate as usual.

Decipher two LED flashes to mean the draft blower is not working, or your furnace has a short in the pressure switch circuit. Turn off the furnace power and repair a short or replace the pressure switch.

Read three LED flashes to mean your furnace has an open pressure switch circuit or it has an induced draft blower operating. Check the pressure switch hose of your furnace for blocks or an improper connection. Also, look for blockages in the flue, and tighten any loose wiring.

Translate four LED flashes to mean your furnace has a primary limit circuit open, possibly from loose wiring or blocked filters. Check and clean filters, tighten wiring and check the flue for blockages.

Interpret five LED flashes to mean your Goodman furnace senses a flame without a call for heat. This could be from a gas valve closing slowly or a burner flame lingering.

Read seven LED flashes as a warning of a low flame sense microamp signal. This could happen with a coated flame sensor or a lazy flame from poor gas pressure. Turn off the power and adjust the gas pressure according to the information on the rating plate.

See eight LED flashes as meaning an igniter circuit problem due to a bad igniter or an igniter connected improperly. Replace the bad igniter or check the ground wiring, making necessary corrections.

Decipher nine LED flashes to mean the high-stage pressure switch circuit will not close during a high-stage-induced draft blower operation. Your furnace may have a pinched or blocked pressure switch hose, a blocked flue or loose wiring.

Read continuous flashing on the LED to mean your furnace has a reversed polarity of 115 volts. Turn off the power and correct the wiring polarity after reviewing the wiring diagram.

Heating element does not come on when thermostat is set to heat. This is a Janitrol A49-10 air handler. Does anyone have some schematics for this unit ?

I do not have the schematic but if you take the upper door panel off and you will see what looks like a limit switch to the left and right. these are the fusable link connections to the heating elements. start there and that should be your problem

No power to ac indoor fan motor

sounds like you might have a bad control board. try putting a jumper wire on the control board low voltage terminals R and G your fan should come on and run if you have 120v power to fan motor. double check that you do have 120 leaving board and going to motor. if no 120 bad board if you do have 120 bad motor. if it is the board it likely has a bad blower relay which is common in amana models and goodman equipment.

GOODMAN CMA80905CXBA FURNACE. INDUCTION BLOWER NOT ENERGIZING. GETTING 3 "BLINKS" FROM DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT (LOW PRESSURE SWITCH OPEN). THE A/C WORKS & THE BLOWER FAN COMES ON WHEN THE STAT IS IN...

the pressure switch is closed before the draft motor closes it.the board is telling you that this is not right.pull the wire(either) off of the pressure switch to see if furnace tries to light.if it does, you should replace the pressure switch.
