Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

5 PGBK vs. 8BK ink cartridges

Is there a way to have MP830 printer use the 8BK cartridge vs, using the 5PGBK cartridge? Can it be controlled by switching Print Quality from standard to either High or Custom, or by using the Color/Intensity "Manual" setting and either altering the "intensity" of the black, or by utilizing ICM?

No there is no way you can adjust it just to use the small black. When copying greyscale or printing greyscale it will use the big black, When printing colour it will always use the small black so there is no way around it!

sorry, hope this helps

How do I direct my Canon ip4300 Printer to no longer print from the normal black 5BGBK cartridge (empty) but to print from the 8BK (full)

You can't because CLI-8Bk ink cartridge is use only for photo printing. For text, document or gray scale printing the printer use PGI-5Bk.You need to replace your empty PGI-5Bk.

How do I get my first blank ink cartridge to work?

you really need to replace the empty cartridge...it's a protection for keeping your printhead from drying or else the micro nozzles will be clogged with dry ink. did u try setting the printer settings to use greyscale or black and white only?

Can't find where the ink cartridges are on the cannon mp830 to replace

THE INK CARTRIDGES :
This multifunction printer is compatible with all of the following ink cartridges. Here is a list of these cartridges and how they you can get them:

PGI-5 Pigment Black
CLI-8Bk Black
CLI-8C Cyan
CLI-8M Magenta
CLI-8Y Yellow

All of the ink cartridges are easy to install and/or replace; all you have to do is keep the printer ON, then open the cover it will come in the position and then unlock the cartridge which allows you to remove and replace the cartridge.

These cartridges cost any where between $10 and $15 each. But if you want a good deal, I would suggest purchasing your ink supplies from Costco Wholesale as they provide good prices on packages.

Error Code 6502 after I changed the PGBK 5 ink cartridge. Then I changed another one and got the same message. What do I do?

Unplug the printer.
Remove the PGBK-5 Cartridge
Plug in the printer and press and hold power button - keep it held down. Press Resume twice, and this should reset the fault.

Trying to reset chip on refilled ink tank on CANON MP830

Looks like Fillserv.com has a chip resetter for the CLI8 color cartridges, but I don't know if that unit will reset the big black PGBK cartridge in the MP830.

Black ink

The PGBK cartridge is a pigment black ink, while the others use a dye for coloration. The pigment black is used when printing text and other documents. The dye ink is used when printing photos and other colored documents. The dye black is used in conjunction with the color (dye) inks to provide tinting and color gradation, and therefore is not used nearly as much as the pigment black unless you use your printer only for printing photos.

If you're printing text and documents, you will need to buy another pigment black (PGBK) cartridge.

Canon Pixma ip4200--

I read somewhere that if the printer receives instruction from the PC that it requires black only printing (e.g. a letter in Word) then it will use the 5PGBK tank. The 8BK tank is used with the other colours in photo printing only. If you check the greyscale option, it will use ink from the 8BK tank and mix with the CMY colours to print, but I have not tried this out.
Good luck
