I was trying to add WPA Personal and changed a password in one of the settings. Not sure what it was to but now I can't get into via web and I do not have my set up disk. I've pushed reset 3 times without any luck?!
Re: I messed up my login passwords how can I reset?
I think you should try to reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it manually. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it manually. See how to reset Linksys router See Linksys router setup

You can login to the router setup by typing http://192.168.0.1on the address bar of Internet Explorer
Make sure you do it on a computer that is connected to the router with a Cable
Then enter the default password (admin) lo log in to router settings
On the left side Click Wireless Settings
Here you can see

The Next section Will be Wireless Settings , you can find the name of your wireless network here Change it to a different name Make Sure the Visibility Status is set to VISIBLE

Try to lookup this network on the Ipad

you need to reconfigure your printer and laptop to WEP but I don't recommend it as WEP is terrible and easy to crack.
connect to your router via cat 5
open internet explorer and browse to http://192.168.1.1
login with the default login is blank. pass is admin.
go to wireless and to wireless security.
change it back to WPA personal.
change the passphase for the wireless password.
use the new passphase you created and tell your printer/laptop to join your wireless network
you may want to change your wireless password too so your son won't reconfigure your router again.
do this by going to administration and change the password there.
No proplem you don't need a software cd to secure the router. Please follow the steps Click the below link http://192.168.1.1
Now it will ask for username and password
Enter username = ( blank) and password = admin If you can't login using this credentials then you will have to reset the router
If you logged in . Then click on Wireless > Wireless security
On this screen select
Security Mode : WPA Personal WPA Algorithm : TKIP WPA shard Key : "enter a password here" Group Key Renewal : set to default
Click on save settings. After that restart router . Now your wireless network is secured and you will have to type the WPA shared key inorder to connect to router when it prompts
If you have forgotten your router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings. To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.
Try this also:- u can recover it by simply connecting one of ur computer with the help of cable to router port 1, then open the browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in address bar .username ....... (blank) password : admin go to wireless ...then goto wireless security ... and there is ur security WPA key ...password.. make a not of it and try to connect it... it would work without changing any personal settings... Best luck try it out ..
Just to put it out there I am a network specialist so my advise is something to consider
Try this..
1. Look on the back on the Router and while its plugged in press and hold the Reset button for a least 10 sec. You should see the lights on the front change or blink. After that let it sit for a few min. Then try to run the cd installation again. When it comes to the username and password .. Not enter a username just put admin for the password. That should let you finish your setup.
Now there is 2 ways to set up your router.
Use CD (For New Users That Are Not Familiar With Routers)
Or
Login manually by opening your web browser and typing 192.168.1.1 Do not enter a username and for the password put admin.
That will take you to the manual setup for the router.
Once you set up your router make sure you change your password from admin ..
Hint: Use WPA Personal or WPA 2 Personal security to secure your wireless network. WEB security is junk and not very secure
Well, there are two things that go into securing a router. First, a user name and password for logging in and second a security access key. Let me explain how to set up both of them:
Please retrieve these instructions in Notepad because you will be losing internet connection as you perform the steps.
1) First you need to log in to make changes to the router. The default IP address for that is 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar and press enter. You will be asked for login details. Here's the default login:
ID: (Leave blank)
Pass: admin (case sensitive)
2) Now you need to change those default login details to your personal ones.
Click on Administration tab -> You will see multiple dots in the password field -> Erase them and enter a personal password -> Scroll down and click save settings -> You will be asked to re login with the new password.
A strong password is the one with numbers, letters and different cases. Example: Cbr600RR
3) Next you need to secure your router's wireless internet connection with an access key. Most people use the WEP security. That however, is not the best option. Several programs are available online that can crack a WEP key. I will suggest a better option: WPA.
Click on Wireless Tab -> Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from "linksys" to a personal one. This is optional but recommended so that you can search for your internet connection faster if there are multiple available in your neighborhood (always the case in apartments).
Under Wireless Channel select 10 or 11. This helps keep your connection faster since most neighboring routers will broadcast at the default channel 6 which leads to interference and disconnection. Click Save settings when you are done. The router takes some time to save those settings and restart itself.
4) Go to Wireless tab again -> Wireless Security -> Security Mode -> WEP -> Passphrase -> Enter a favorite word -> Generate -> Select any one of the four generated keys and copy it (Right click -> Copy). Note down this key for later use.
Go back to Security Mode -> WPA Personal -> WPA Shared Key -> Paste the copied key here -> Save settings. That will be your to connect to your router. Please note this down somewhere safe as you will need it to let other computers connect as well.
You have successfully secured your router. Let me know if you need more help. Take care!
It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Your wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Before you start make sure your computer is directly connected to your router.
1- open a browser and on the address box type the following and press enter ---> http://192.168.0.1 2- on the next screen you will be asked for your routers username and password in order to login. If you have'nt change this information before you can use the following (click log in after) Username : admin Password: password 3- once you are in, on the left side menu click on WIRELESS SETTINGS 4- on the next screen you will see below WIRELESS SECURITY MODE: Security Mode:-___________________ Next to Security Mode, select Enable WPA-Personal Security 5- a new menu appears below and asks for the following: Next to Cipher Mode select--->Auto. Next to Personal/Enterprise select---> Personal. Next to Passphrase, enter a key (passphrase). The key is an alpha-numeric password between 8 and 63 characters long. The password can include symbols (!?*&_) and spaces. Make sure you enter this key exactly the same on all other wireless clients. Enter the passphrase again next to Confirmed Passphrase. 6- Click Save Settings to save your settings. If you are configuring the router with a wireless adapter, you will lose connectivity until you enable WPA-PSK (or WPA2-PSK) on your adapter and enter the same passphrase as you did on the router.
If you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask me...Good Luck!!!
Hey, you're on the right track however, you'll just need to synchronize the settings on the computer. Follow the steps below.
1. Open the router's admin page (192.168.1.1) 2. Go to Wireless > Wireless Security 3. Security Mode: Select WPA-Personal 4. On the WPA-Shared Key or Passprase box, type your desired password. (Minimum of 8 characters.) 5. Take note of the password, click on Save Settings.
6. On your laptop, open Network and Sharing Center 7. Click on Manage Wireless Network. 8. Please remove all the listed networks 9. Click on Add > Add a Network in Range 10. Select your network and click connect. 11. Type the WPA password that you wrote down and connect.
