Question about Computers & Internet

Bought canon pixma470 several months ago. Just this date tried to use, can't get ink cartridges to fit--directions very vague. Secondly, no software included. Finally, there were no ink cartridges included as stated on carton. Bought new ones this day, can't see how they install.

I bought HP 940 XL some months ago and my printer says the date has expired

What date has expired? Are you talking about the cartridge date? If yes then thats what HP is known best for: Making people buy cartridges all the time. Its said that most cartridges work fine even after their expiration date so you should try resetting the date on the cartridge. This explains it: http://www.ehow.com/how_7354802_reset-hp-940-chip.html

I just installed a new ink Canon 8 Yellow ink cartridge exactly like the one that ran out of ink. However, the printer gives me a message that "The following ink tank cannot be recognized" and...

Printer manufacturers are getting more and more tricky and try to come up with creative ways to make you buy more ink. Some of the newer cartridges have a little electronic chip on them that "talks" to the printer. How old is the cartridge? (I mean did you just buy it brand new or has it been sitting in a drawer for a year and you just opened it?).
Every model can be different, but I do know some of the newer printers will do a date check on the cartridge so it will only work if the cartridge is less than X number of months old. On some printers you can trick them into working by going into the printer setup and changing the date. Set the date AHEAD to something like 2020 or something and then the printer will let it work.
It's a long shot, but I figured I would share that tip as it does work sometimes. If it doesnt work I would guess you maybe got a bad cartridge and I would go return it for a new one.
If this was a help please give me 4 thumbs up as I am trying to build up my rep on this site!

Message keeps saying ink out of date....just replaced the cartridges less than a month ago.

Hi
You may have replaced the ink cartridges, but did you know that the ink have data on the chips on the cartridges with a date so the inks you bought maybe already old so it maybe this, it reading the data on the chips and there is a time limited on them,
So you may have to replace them again, and I would buy them from a shop that sells lots then they are up to date
All the best and be careful where you buy your inks.

Printer spits out black ink and smudges when printed

Hi,
Your printer apparently needs to be cleaned, using your canon software utility. If the cleaning doesn't help, try to replace cartridges

Cannot recognize ink cartridge

I have about 6 canon printers with a 3in 1 using PG40 and CL41. I have never encountered the problem you have. I have looked into some other sites and noticed a number if CLI-8 cartridges being replaced by Canon. I think there are only 2 probable problem areas, he cartridge or the software you are using. I suggest you call up Canon and complain about this problem. Seems like you got the printer 6 months or so ago. You should able to get to do something like replace the printer or cartridges. I'm assuming that you don't refill or have your cartridges refilled so the contact points should not be messy w/ ink. You can try cleaning the contact points on the cartridges and printer. But I'd call Canon and explain to them the situation and see if they can solve your problem. Solve I'm implying is to replace your cartridges or printer. Let me know if this helps.

First, download the software at http://www.box.net/shared/4yblbn34kg

Secondly, to run the software your printer has to be in service mode. Do that by
- unplug cable
- press and hold "power" button
- plug cable
- press "resume" and release
- release the "power" button
At this stage, your computer will detect a new hardware

Run the software.

oke

No ink

hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this fax. the problem that you are having is very common and has to do with two things. the cartridge and the purge/cleaning unit. what you can try is this open the printer and center the carridge unit and remove the cartridge. unplug the machine while it is still centered. on the right hand side you will see the purge unit. in the center of the purge unit is what looks like a retanglar pad. mix a water soap solution and apply to pad just soaking it. let it sit for a few minutes. take the ink cartridge and wipe the bottom of the cartridge with a damp soapy cloth. also if you look at the cartridge there is a little breating hole you can hold a cloth on the bottom and gently blow in that hole it will purge ink through the bottom of the cartridge. install the cartridge in the machine close the front door and replug in the power cord. you might still have to run a few cleaning cycles. hope this helps.

Printer cartridge stalled

Have you put in new ink cartridges?

Get the printer to move the carriage away from the side where it normally rests. Look inside there, and beneath the rest area, sometimes there is a little rubber stamp that presses up against the cartridges. It usually is filled with dry ink. Take a wet paper tower (probably several of them) and try to get as much ink as you can up. Also, there is sometimes a little rubber wiper that cleans the printhead as it passes by. Make sure this is clean also.

Now take the cartridges out. Get another clean paper towel, sopping with water. Press the nozzels down against it, but don't wipe. Just dab them, until you're getting some solid lines of ink on the towel.

Then look for the pattern of copper colored dots on the cartridge. Clean this with alcohol, and then look inside the printer where these dots (contacts) would line up inside the carriage. There will be a smilar pattern of dimples. Clean these with alcohol, and let it dry.

If possible, you might want to try to fit a towel damp with water beneath the print carriage (where the paper runs through).  This collects a lot of ink sometimes.  Be careful not to force anything.
Finally, put it all back together and try your print.

Thankyou,

U150 error?

My dad is having this same problem and has been for the last 5 months. It's not from the printer being new it's a defect in the engineering of the printer cartridge older. The yellow cartridge (being the middle) doesn't snugly fit and so it wiggles around losing it's connection with the printer. I fixed this by taking making tape and taping around the base of the cartridge. It's a tight fit and it doesn't disconnect itself ever. Hope this helps!
