I have the exact same problem. Eats tape when I try to record and also when I try to play back. I have taken the tape out numerous times, fixed it, bought new tapes, etc., and the problem persists. I am now also not able to close the door that houses the tapes.

hai, If you are service engineer you can do this problem, Please, check the cassette IN sensing Switch. The place of the Switch is right side of the mechanism, Clean S/w with IPA solution & check. It will be ok or other wise you have replace s/w or mechanism.

This camera uses mini-DV tapes which are widely available online or in camera shops. If I was buying, I would start with Amazon.co.uk

Your tape has a small latch on it that closes to protect from recording or eraser and opens to allow for playing or dubbing. Slide it open and see what happens.

That is caused by leaking capacitors. Not a lot the layman can do about it except purchase a new camcorder or send it to Panasonic for repair, if not obsolete.

Blue lines in play mode

This is not a problem with the tape but the camera. The only way to fix it seems to be to find an empty spot on the tape or a spot you don’t care if you record over. Then record for a second then go to video mode and you can play the tape without the blue lines. Or buy something else to play the tapes which should be fine either way. Darn camera !

Typical CCD sensor problem ...replace CCD block. This is normally due to a faulty component being installed so even if your camera is out of warranty try to have it done free of charge.
