Question about GE Energy Star PDS22SIS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

Profile PFS22SISBSS This frig is such a disappointment. My appliances usually last 20+ years (dishwasher, frig. and washer and dryer by a variety of brands). This G.E. Profile frig. had problems within months of its purchase. The plastic shelves in the doors have cracked in the middle - at least 3 of them. The tracking on the crisper is broken on the outer left side. The tracks in the freezer have cracks in them. And, the electronic temperature indicator is on and off. This frig. is only about two years old, if that. GE will not stand behind their product and I will never by another GE product again, if they continue to take this stance. They offered to have a service man come out and I would pay $60 for him to check the frig. and write a report to submit to G.E. Then, they cancelled this appointment without telling me, leaving me hanging.

SOURCE: GE Profile making knocking noises at different times

I have the GE profile Refrigerator with ice maker in the refrigerator compartment. Mine was knocking loudly for long periods of time, so I finally removed the icemaker by removing the side panel in the icemaker compartment held with 1 phillips head screw, disconnecting the electrical plug (unclip), pulling the tab of the icemaker down (on top) and sliding it toward the door, thus removing it. There was ice frozen in the motor compartment that was the problem. I let it thaw out and re-installed. All was OK after that..

Registration of my washer and dryer, which are the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life.

Dear Sue,
Aha! You have found out the secret!
You are correct.
However, there are a few things you can do.
Until he passed away recently, I was best friends with an appliance parts man, who shared that the time of the "turn for the worse" was about 20 years ago.
2 things happened at that time.
1) The USA seriously began to buy everything possible overseas., and
2) Companies using computers began to use those to figure how to squeeze every last penny from the manufacturing process to make more money.
This meant making parts cheaper/ making parts to last only until the warranty was up. ( 60 days?/90 days?/one year?).
Your option?
Buy reliable old machines that will still last for 20 -- 40 years, and you will need to retain the services of an honest repair man to fix them when needed service every few years.
In the mean time, the company "Consumer's Reports" ( they publish a magazine) is what I go by to see what is still marginally good.
God bless your efforts.

Historically, how long should this dryer last? We purchased our home (dryer included) 20 years ago.

Depends on the dryer and the usage.. I know that dose not help. Dryers especially the old ones are very simple appliances. If you are having problems you can purchase a repair manual at almost any appliance parts house. In 40 years I have never owned a new dryer...

The dryer won't start. The sensor light comes on...nothing happens

I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the machine ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and just happened to see that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video on youtube which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video (direct drive washer repair) made it possible for me to do my own repair. You probably don't have any idea of the wonderful help you can get from youtube videos. Your first stop should be at youtube. Just search for the help you need. You could search for "clothes dryer repair" or "clothes washer repair" or "dishwasher repair". If you are not able to view and/or download the videos, or after you've seen all you want to see, I suggest you go directly to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers, dryers. and dishwashers as well as other appliances. Another excellent site is www.acmehowto.com If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart these youtube videos are wonderful help. I was so impressed with them that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about the videos. If you look at the back of your top load washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove, which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video (direct drive washer repair) is just what you need. After you've seen all the appropiate videos, or if you have a belt drive washer, you will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good trouble shooting and repair nformation on most washers and dryers, dishwashers and many other household appliances. I think you'll find what you need there. Another excellent site for DIY help is www.acmehowto.com Don't worry about the timer on a washer, they hardly ever go bad. I realize I haven't solved your problem for you, but I hope I have sent you where you can get help to solve the problem. Good luck with it.

F02 washer problem

Hello Mat1996
Huuum At your service!

With an error code.
This can reset the system.
First unplug the washer and wait a 5 minutes then restart it.
It's like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
Usually it corrects some error problems if they are not serious.
Or they are sometimes just a glitch.

How old is the appliance?

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!!!!
Water,Electric and detergent! And put money back in your pocket!
The new appliance will pay for itself in only a few years!

Bless You
