I have a Quantaray SD card reader, I put a SD card in it and it doesn't work. I guess I need a driver or software in my Windows 7

Are you sure it's an SD card? If it's larger than 2GB then it's actually an SDHC card and won't work in devices designed only for SD cards.

Don't know how to download from PC to sony reader

I believe the Sony Reader only had one way to transfer files and that was via an SD card. You would have to take the SD card, put it into a SD card reader (will be a USB adapter with a slot for it). it will appear as a regular thumb drive to the computer. Then copy and paste the documents you want on it. Safely remove and put the SD card into the Sony Reader. Then reboot the device and find the files listed in your storage.

Please note the Sony Reader's are real picky about file formats so read the manual to make sure you have the files in a format you can use.

Hi anna21,

Formatting the card may fix the problem however you will loose all the data on the card. I have a solution here that can help you but you need a SD Card Reader on your computer to back up the files.

1. Put the SD Card in your Card Reader.
2. Connect it to your PC.
3. If the window pop-up like asking to open with what program select Open as File.
4. If the window does not pop-up, Go to My Computer/Computer. There should be the SD Card Memory.
5. Backup all the save file in your SD Card in other word copy the whole SD card. Save it in your computer. Make sure you remember where you put it.
6. Reformat the SD Card by Right Click and click Fromat
7. Tick Quick Format
8. After it finish formatting, Try open the SD Card. It should be empty.
9. Put back all the copied file back into SD Memory Card.
10. Plug it on your DS. Check the files. Play and Enjoy

Sd card format software

Start up a computer with Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Insert the SD card into an external memory card reader or into the computer's built in card reader. If it the first time a SD card has been inserted into the computer, Windows will recognize the SD card and automatically install drivers to read the memory card.

Go to the computer view by clicking on the windows start menu icon in the bottom right corner of the computer. In Windows 7 and Vista click "Computer". In Windows XP click "My Computer"

Right click on the SD drive under the computer heading. A dialog box with different options for the drive will appear. Click on "Format" to bring up the formatting dialog box.

Select the type of formatting (also known as file system format). In Windows XP or Vista there are several choices including FAT, FAT 32, and NTFS. In Windows 7 there is an added choice called exFAT formatting. This is an improved FAT formatting type with improved meta data capabilities. Choose the formatting type, name if the drive if desired, check or uncheck the "quick format" option, and press the "Start" button. When the SD card format is complete Windows will provide a notification.

Good luck.

Quick test for you if you insert the card and you can send a file from you computer say any document and it transfers across and read it back the card and the reader are ok. It will be the file type of the pictures that it at fault most cameras memory cards are of a Raw format and some OS's dont like it. Try a blank SD card if you have one, format it on the computer then insert in camera and see if after you take a few pic you can see the file.

I have a 8gig sd card and my sr1519x cannot read it. Do I need different drivers?

If your card reader can access another sd card then your reader is fine. You do not need different drivers for different cards, you only need drivers for the reader itself. The card may not be accessible for usage until you format the card itself. If you don't have access to another sd card, go to the device manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks. If you see any, then you may need to update or re-install the drivers for the device. If you see the drive in my computer, try to right click on the device and a pop up window should appear to format the sd card. The only other thing that I can think of is that if you are using a card adapter, it may be locked to read and write data to the sd card. If so, there is a little slide switch on the adapter. I hope this helps.

I place my SD card into my comuter and it comes up with "you need to format before use". When I formatted it it says "window could not complete format. Now I can not use it. please help.

Wow, that's awful; sounds like Windows isn't completely comfortable with the SD card reader in it, or the SD is beyond the size handled by the drivers. Double-check with a new reader if that reader isn't from 2008 in the first place.

The version of Windows you're using would matter too; perhaps it's WinXP SP3? This problem should definitely be categorized by OS. Not as generic to all desktop PCs.

It rather sounds like you're inserting the card after inserting the reader into the PC... am I wrong?

As long as the device is detected in the Device Manager (system properties), it should be fine.

Insert the card first, then insert the USB reader. From there, check that you get a drive-letter. If you do, great.. if it's brand new, it may require formatting the disk before you can open it and start putting things on it or using it in a camera.

When you say "no files are detected", i'm assuming you don't simply mean "there are no files already on the SD card"... because that's normal if it's new. =-]
