Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Gateway monitor will not work on non gateway PC.

I gave my father my old Gateway monitor #FPD1950 to use on his PC, he is running windows XP like myself. We disconnected his old CRT and hooked up the LCD with the analog cable as he does not have a digital port, and nothing but a blank screen. Is the cable different for CRT/ LCD connections? Maybe it is a software issue? How do I find the software on my computer and download it for him. Any ideas? Joe

Joe,
It's could be the backlight inverter are busted...try plugged to another PC. If it still the same problems... Replaced a new backlight inverter or repaired it.

FPD 2485W .I replaced the bad capaitors in the inverter board, I hear the sound but can not see the gateway logo. I hook it up to the computer a d I do not see any video. Replace the inverter board, power...

Sounds like you've replaced everything but the backlight itself!
If you have another working unit, connect this LCD panel to the working unit and see if it works. If it's still dark, you need to replace the FL tube (backlight(s) ).

My FPD1950 Gateway Monitor quit working. It will not go on..What can it be? What can be done to fix it?

It does the same on another PC?
First thing to look inside the monitor will be the DC filter caps (bulging tops) which is the common failure in LCD TV and Monitors.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed GATEWAY monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

Moved my computer to another room and when starting up the monitor has no power. I tried changing cords and outlets and still no power. Is this the end of the line?

It may have been coincident. For a 4 years old monitor, the power supply may have failed.

Windows XP on my Gateway PC will not accept Viewsonic Widescreen VA1912wSeries . My HP PC broke & I moved the montor to the Gateway. The HP had the same Windows XP system.

Reboot the computer into safemode. to do this tap F8 after the logo screen for gateway goes away. select Safe Mode.

Right click the desktop and click properties. in this window click settings. change the resolution to 1024x768.

click the advanced button. click monitor tab then set the screen refresh rate to 60 hertz.

if the monitor is compatible it will be able to be displayed. else try 1440x900 and 60Hertz for the settings

My Gateway FPD1950 Monitor Will Not Power Up After Being Moved

Here's a link to the HP support site for your monitor, where there are instructions for troubleshooting this problem. But check first to be sure you haven't inadvertently switched the power switch on the monitor off. Then try another power cable if you have one, try plugging directly into the wall instead of a power strip, etc. Jiggle the cable connection on the back of the monitor.
Here's another article that may help you to determine if the monitor has in fact gone bad.
I hope not, as I have the same monitor and have enjoyed it for its clarity and resolution...But I once had a power supply go out when I moved to a new room. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but it happens, I suppose.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

It's probably cheaper to get a new monitor than it is to get a logic board. If Gateway can even get you such a thing.

Good luck on that.

Elbtax,
Click start > right click on "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button > Display adapters > Right click on your device and select uninstall and re boot your computer. Windows should pick up your adapter and re configure it automatically. This method should Fixya!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
