Hi there my son put a code in his ipod to lock it and has forgetten it how can i reset it
I have an iPod 1gb that volume control is locked. Lost combination

Enable hidden folders.
In Windows Explorer,go to "Tools", "Folder Options". Then click on the
tab called "View", and under "Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show
Hidden Files and Folders".
Navigate ("My Computer" to double-click on the icon of your
attached iPod) to the hidden folder named "iPod_Control", and once
there click on the folder "Device". Once there, delete the file named
"_volumelocked".
Eject your iPod. Then, restart your iPod. You can do this by holding down the center and menu button for at least 6 seconds.
Once your iPod has rebooted, check and make sure that it worked.
Simply go into "Settings", "Volume Limit". If it asks for a PIN, you
did it WRONG. Retry the above procedure.

If you can't remember your lock code on your Nano, you will have to restore the Nano via iTunes, there is no other way around this, as there is no way to recover your lock code. Restoring your Nano will erase everything on the player, and restore it to factory defaults, after this is done you can restore all your files and settings to your Nano. Here is instructions on resoring your Nano in case you aren't sure how. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339?viewlocale=en_US
Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod.
If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this:
1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.
3. Open iTunes and synchronize.
Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer, your only option is to restore the iPod, which will erase all music and data."
When connect ipod to computer, go to my computer. Click on ipod:- -click on tools, go to folder options -go to view tab -check show hidden files -a ghost like folder will apear: ipod control -click on it and go to device -there will be a locked file -click and delete it
You should be able to reset the ipod by pressing/holding down the center button and the menu button the same time (6-10seconds). If that dosen't work, plug in your device to the computer and you should be able to reset it on the itunes program.
