No it is not hopeless! if you want to do this procedure I can help you adjust the main screen focus inside the television on the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER but you will need to take it apart unless there are access holes in the back for the adjustment.

Samsung 55" blurry picture and words are blurry...netflix comes in perfect...whats wrong

Is it a 3D TV. Try changing the refresh rate in the Picture Menu 60HZ is normally the standard but try others. Or if you're TV has Auto Motion Plus options you try turn it on it can be found in your television's menu under Picture Options. The Auto Motion Plus menu contains several options, including On, Off, Clear, Smooth and Standard. If changing your Auto Motion Plus options doesn't correct blur, call Samsung.

Tv is alittle blurry, its hard to read words

when its hard to read words its usually the sharpness which make the t.v.'s look either blurry or sharp or right in between. you can fix this by adjusting it thru your tv's menu either on the tv or your remote, look under the picture tab in the menu and there should be a sharpness adjuster there. adjust as needed

480i is displayed on the tv even when I play my Sony BluRay

You have to go into the blueray player menu and select the type of output. And, yes the display on the TV will automatically indicate the type signal it receives from the source.

Blurry picture

you can try to clean the mirror and lenses. or try to adjust the focus for each CRT(picture tube). also could be a convergence alignment issue. check the main menu for convergence alignment feature.
