Question about Saeco Magic Comfort Plus Espresso Machine

Brew unit missing

The display is stating that the brew unit is missing. While cleaning, a small coil, which I believe is the brew unit, popped out of the brew group. I am not sure where exactly the tiny coil should go. Please advise.

Make sure the unit is seated properly, if any part flew off or out, it can be replaced at www.partsguru.com

The display my machine says "Brew unite miss" what it means? How can I fix this?

Hi Open the door on the right. The brew unit is the thing with the handle that has the "press" on it. You need to push on the upper left side of the brew unit until it clicks. There is an outlet spout on the opposite side of where you are pushing. It goes into an intake port that needs to be lubed, so the outlet spout will slide in without pushing back. That should take care of the missing brew unit.

Have cleaned the brew unit and the machine still does not work

If you are holding the brew unit in you hand look at the top you will notice a small knob with grooves, if you look to the bottom of that knob about 3-4 inches inside the unit you will see the screen. If it is no noticeable run water from the faucet over the brew unit.

Try this, check brew unit on it you will see a small arrow, this has to be pointing at the letter N, whisch is near the handle. Remove the drain tray and dreg tray, check the rails for the brew unit make sure there is no coffee on it, then slide unit in place.

Small spring by brew unit popped out?

It goes underneath the front edge of the funnel on top of the unit. Remove the brew unit, take off the funnel (it will come off with a little mainpulation - it's dominantly held in place by 2 grips in front that will release with firm pressure), and you will see the small circular receptacle hole for the spring.

Not making espresso from beans

Hi
Are your coffee grinds wet? If they are you have a clogged brew head. Remove the filter screen. Then remove the 2 screws that hold the outlet manifold to the brew head. There are 3 things under the manifold. O-ring, tapered spring and a crystal ball. Don't lose any of these items. Now to clean the brew head turn the brew unit over to where you can see where the brew screen was. You will see 2 holes, 1 large and 1 small. Take a paper clip and straighten it. Turn the brew unit upside down and insert the paperclip into the small hole. Push the paper clip through and remove the plug. I have seen them over 1/2" long. Reassemble the brew unit crystal ball first, small end of the spring on top of the crystal ball, place the o-ring over the spring and place the manifold on top making sure the outlet pipe is to the outside of the brew unit. Put the 2 screws back and your ready to go. Run a detergent for espresso machines like Cafiza through the brew unit every once in a while to keep it clean. It doesn't take a lot of detergent and use the pre-grind setting and a large cup selection but don't put any coffee in.

Miele brew unit jammed and brewunit block is being displayed

There is a third solution. The brewunit drive motor has three contact switches that indicate home, preset (loading grounds, I assume) and make espresso. The problem is the three contact switches are all on one circuit, so the microprocessor knows a limit switch has been reached, but it doesn't know which one. The programming obviously assumes the limit switches are reached in the correct sequence. In my case, the microprocessor thought the brew unit was in home position when it was in the make espresso position. Miele technical support recognized this immediately, so it is a common problem. The solution is to remove the top panel of the unit, unplug the unit, unplug JP34 on the microprocessor board (four wires, red/yellow/brown/black, in the middle back edge of the microprocessor board). Plug in the unit, put it in maintenance mode, and press and hold the medium coffee button for several seconds. This will move the drive motor past the current limit switch. Plug JP34 back in, plug in the machine, and put it in maintenance mode. Press and hold the large coffee button for a second or two, maximum. Open the machine, and look at the brew unit drive male gear in the main machine as compared to the brew unit female gear. It will take several tries to get the male/female gears to match so you can plug in the brew unit. Once this is done, and the brew unit snaps in place correctly, place the machine in maintenance mode one more time and press and hold the Medium Coffee button to reset the microprocessor with the limit switches. You should be back in business!
