Question about Logitech ClearChat Pro USB Headset

1 Answer

USB Device Not Recognized

I just recently bought a Logitech ClearChat Pro USB Headset. It was working fine and I was totally happy with it for the first week that I had it. I use a Laptop running Windows Vista (I keep all programs and applications and the OS up to date) and one day I got a little bubble from the taskbar saying "USB Device Not Recognized" I went to the logitech site to see if there were any drivers that I would have to install or something. I looked up on google.com and see what I could find and if anyone else had the same problem. After looking around for hours I couldn't find a solution. Got one?

Same exact thing for me. Worked fine the first week, then plugged it in one day and it said the device was not recognized and the USB device had malfunctioned. Nothing happened to the headset, the computer just stopped recognizing it. PLEASE HELP!

When I plugged it in the first time the headset worked. The next day, I could only hear clicking in the headphones , but when I tried to play the music, it would play through my computer speakers, instead of headphones. I am able to turn the volume up and down using the built in buttons in headphones, which means that the headphones are not defective. Is there something in the settings?

Same thing, the USB port just up and decided it wasn't going to recognize the device anymore. I haven't found and clear solution to the problem sadly... I guess I'll just have to use my ear buds instead of this Logitech piece o' poo...

ClearChat Pro USB headset asks for driver upon install

  1. (Vista) Confirm your system restore point first. It needs to be prior to what you're going to attempt here. If it has a recent restore point, great, but if not, make a system restore before you do this, in case it doesn't work.
  2. In the Control Panel, click System, Advanced System Settings, click System Protection, and click System Restore.
  3. (Optional) Try updating your usb drivers before trying the final step, reinstalling the Vista Service Pack 2.
  4. Here's how to verify if your USB (drivers) in the Device Manager are up to date.
  5. Open the Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
  6. Open the Universal Serial Bus controllers (usually at the bottom of the device list).
  7. Right-click, on your first USB, Updating Driver Software. It will look for the update or let you know (which may take a bit of time) that it is up to date already. Repeat this process on all the USB devices.
  8. If that doesn't work, try this: plug in your headset, and keep it plugged into the usb.
  9. In your Windows Updates, re-install the Service Pack 2. After Vista reboots your computer and finishes the install, unplug your headset from the USB and then replug it in. What you are likely to see is a Windows message indicating that it sees the software and is installing it (minus the windows pop-up message of "where's the driver disc for it?").
  10. Now the trick is to get the headset to play the microphone through the speakers appropriately!

Bandwidth sounds logical, so check if your USB ports are configured as USB 2.0 and not USB 1.1 (which is slower).
Apart from that, it could really be a driver compatibility issue. The driver architecture in Vista is different from XP, so even if the driver is accepted, it does not mean it provides the same performance and quality. Best if you can get real Vista (signed) drivers.
