This is not a problem with your PS3. DVD's come with a region code lock that won't allow the disc to be played if it's in the wrong region. This is a common occurrence when movies are bought off the internet from different countries. There is nothing you can do about it that I know of, save for returning the discs for a different region code. Thanks.

The best way to play burned movies is to copy them onto a memory stick or external hard drive then copy them onto the ps3 i use this method and find the movies play in much higher quality than dvd-r or+r or whatever discs you use
If all of your other games are working then it's probably just a software update for that game. If you are hooked up to the internet via your PS3 it should download the update automatically, but it may not do it unless the game is in the machine. Make sure that your interent connection is good to the PS3, slide the game in and leave it for a while. Maybe a couple of hours and then reset and try game again. Depending on your connection updates could take anywhere from 10mins to over an hour. Sometimes the server will time out too if the update it taking too long. Also, change your PS3 auto start game setting to off, once you do this you will have to slect the game from your PS3 menu to access it and play it. If you have a friend with a PS3 or go the store where you bought it and see if they have the same problem with the game, it could just be bad batch of discs. In that case buy it at another store.
