Maybe the battery went... As a rule of thumb, you should not have the battery connected when on AC power, unless for recharging purposes. It reduces lifespan in a galloping fashion.

I have a laptop gateway computer, the power light is on but everything else is dead, I cannot get the hard drive to eject, all this seem to happen after I got a virus?will this have anything to do with my...

Check all connections mate . Any one of the below could be faulty :-

Power outlet at the wall - try plugging something else into the socket or use a different socket

Are you using any multi-plug adapters? Plug the laptop straight into the mains

Your DC jack may be loose (Where the charger plugs in). This is a common problem and most laptops will get this during their life. Take if to a repair shop to get it fixed. A quick way of checking this is to plug the charger in and wiggle the cord - if the socket where the charger plugs in moves , its a loose jack and it will need to be resoldered.

Dead Battery - Try another battery , or let the battery charge - Try running directly off the mains

Hard drive wont eject? - There not supposed to , the only way you usually disconnect the hard drive is by unscrewing it from the laptop.

How far can you get when you say "Everything else is dead"? can you get to the BIOS? , does anything appear on the screen aty all? If you get a picture but cant boot then its likely that the virus corrupted your windows installation which means you will have to use the repair discs that came with the laptop or another windows install disc to reinstall windows - This will however , lose any documents , music , programs etc that you put on - If you want to keep things off the drive , plug it into another laptop , get all your data back then reinstall into your own laptop. If you rtry putting the drive in another laptop and things dont work and you cant even get your data or the drive doesnt appear , you will need a new hard drive and then have to reinstall windows on the new drive

Gateway laptop wont connect to power

The only thing you can really do in this case is call gateway and see if they can repair this. it seems like something internal. Hopefully the computers are still under warranty. Sorry for the bad news.

Hi,
Its absolutely a charger problem. This is not a big issue. If its charging perfectly then neglect it. or else replace it with new charger. Thank you...

Laptop wont charge

Hi

First you need to establish that where the problem is. In your laptop or in its charger. It can be done by connecting either of the item to a known, functional one. Once it is declared which of them is defective, the problem can be investigated fiurther.

The socket where you plug the charger into the laptop is loose and now will not charge. where can i send it to be fixed and how much will it cost? I am in Niagara falls, ONtario

Hi
This is typically caused by tension on the plug. For instance, you allow the charger to dangle and hang on the plug. This causes poor contact and the socket gets hot and melts.
If you go to the manufacturers they will charge you for a new mainboard. Your best bet is to take it into a local TV/Hi-Fi repair shop and get a quote.

Gateway mailed back my laptop worse then it got sent to them. I got broken fam slots, it wont hold a charge, it wont shut anymore

If you are having this kind of a problem with Gateway support, then you need to get out off the call center loop and get directly to the problem. This is what worked for me when Gateway did the same thing to my M675: (I ended up with a new replacement laptop. Your results may vary.)

Call the corporate office and get a live person on the phone. It doesn't matter who it is as long as you can get them to forward you on to a manager who can take a complaint regarding repair services. If you get to the manager in charge of technical services, then you have gotten to the right place and your problem will soon get resolved.

Don't ever take no for an answer. Insist that they take responsibility for their failure to repair your laptop and get this resolved immediately. Be sure to mention the warranty every time they sound like they want to hang up on you and the fact that you still do not have a functioning laptop.

Take close-up pictures of everything still visibly broken and email those to whomever begins to take responsibility for your situation. It will speed things up and avoid the whole troubleeshoot-over-the-phone situation.

Gateway Corporate offices:

Gateway 14303 Gateway Place
Poway, CA 92064
Phone: (858) 848-3401
Fax: (858) 848-3402

Note: Opt out of their phone system immediately by either #0#0, *0*0, or punch all 0's until it says it is forwarding your call. This will save you some serious hassle.

Hope this helps.

take the batter out see if the computer stay on and gets hot.

if it does still get hot check if the CPU fan or the fans are spinning, if not, the MOTHERBOARD could be shot.

check the fan make sure they are free moving, no dust.
