Re: red light start up
I just answered this same question so heres some things NOT to do and check if you have done ANY of these things in the past:
1. Make sure the console sit in an open space with nothing blocking the air from coming in and out. 2. Be careful not to put the console next to a hot item such as stove, radiator etc. 3. From time to time check on it and make sure all the fans are working and that your console does not over heat, if it does you might want to buy some kind of a cooling system. 4. DO NOT put your console outside in the cold weather or in the freezer it might cause even bigger problems! 5. If you still have your warranty now it is a good time to exchange your console for a new one! Don?t wait like I did?
From my experience this should prevent the 2 red lights from coming back and from the appearing of the 3 red lights which means your console need to be repaired!

ok wat u do is bring it back to where u got it its still under warranty, it wont cost u a thing, if its second hand take off the shell where hte disc tray is and see if the silver warranty sticker is intact and in the right place if its not bring it back to the shop and complain thats its not, and as a last solution htere is a way to fix it at home u wrap the xbox up in blankets and takeout hard drive turn it on wit inly the av cable in, wait til the light comes on then take out av cable, tehn leave it wrapped up tight-ish until it turns off or makes a loud kinda clikcin noise then leave for a minute to cool down and turn on should work but is only a temporary solution
I also had this problem. when i sent it in to sony they told me my hard drive was bad. and that it overheated the system. this may also be the case with you. call sony and describe your problem. I hope your warranty is still valid.
Hey Jay- There is a plastic disc that sits on the centre of the drive inside the box, this disc has a magnet in it that is supposed to hold the game cd in place. What's happened is the plastic has become dislodged from the computer drive and is not the magnet portion is stuck to the drive housing (also metal).
You need to open up the game console, remove the drive and the drive cover and get that plastic disc out of it's holding plate. Once out, you just reinsert the drive (without the cover) and set the disc on top of the game cd-give the game a spin or two with your fingers and it should start up....problem fixed
If you search on Youtube you can see a repair video for this. It takes time, and you have to tear apart the game to get at this puppy. I've since fixed mine and left the plastic game housing off as well, so as to get rid of the overheating problem.
