Question about Sony DVP-PQ2 Portable DVD

Sony DVP-PQ2 problem

Hi,

I have a Sony PVP-PQ2 player. I took out one disc and replaced it with another. The player then stopped reading the disc. It acknowledges that there's a disc present, but instead of spinning round (I can see it's not through its little window), it just makes a brushing sound like the disc's being read accompanied by occasional clicking sounds.

It does do it on every disc. It also happened instantaneously and has not got progressively worse.

Is it cost-effective to try to fix it, or is it essentiallythe death knell!?

    I'm afraid not!

Does it do this with every disk?

it could be one of several things, with some of these drives it uses a friction wheel at the center of the disk to "spin" the disk, this uses a circular rubber traction disk to grip the disk on both sides and then spins the disk using this traction, ( if the rubber there is not good it will not work well)

the other kind of spindle is a press on spindle which has a spring loaded grip mechanism where the disk is clipped onto the spindle,

the other issue is that you may have a driveband failure, this basically a rubber band which drives the main drivewheel from the drive motor, these can wear out or perish.

lastly, it could be a bad/burned out drive motor,

all of these issues can be fixed by the manufacturer and some of these can be fixed relatively easy by the user if the unit is out of warranty

it depends on whether it is the snap on spindle or the friction spindle.

if it is a friction spindle it may just be that the rubber grip has lost traction on the disks

I think you can get a "stick on" replacement, or some cleaning spray to revitalise it

if it is the snap on kind, then you will need to see if you can replace the drive band (which means opening it up) the drive band is just an elastic band, it may just have perished.

My Sony DVP-CX777ES player just opens and closes several times upon powering up. Then it stops and I get an error message that reads "C 32 00." Then it turns off.

Hi,
Please check door mechanism as explained in chat session and possibly loading belt and/or door switches could be culprit and causing problem.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.
