WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR COMPUTER ASKS FOR A DISK FOR BACKUP & YOU DON;T HAVE ANY DISKS. WILL THIS HARM YOUR COMPUTER ?

Hi sunshine1961,

"Backing up your Data from the "Computer" is an (Option)!"
If you have, or work on 'important documents', and in case of,
computer faults, 'errors', or failure; you would like to have these documents;
"Back-up on a external source, e.g. CD, DVD, Flash Drive, or External Hard drive.
This will keep the "Data Safe."
It will not hurt the computer, if you do not always back up Data!
But! the computer may become 'slower' over time; as the "Data" accumulates,
on the "Hard Drive."
I hope this information answer your questions?
"Write a comment, if you need to know more?"

I cant format the hard drive

Hi golkimo...
Sometimes you cannot format the hard drive that is in the computer...I don't know why.
But what I do is put the hard drive in an external hard drive holder and plug it into another guest computer and it will then let you format the hard drive from the guest computer.
Then reinstall back into your computer and reinstall the operating system.
Please take time to rate me

Hp pavilion dv5000 hard drive problems

It is rare that you get notice of impending harddrive failure so heed the warning now. If it were me, I would back up all files to an external drive, and better yet, use a program such as Norton Ghost or Acronis and make a drive image. That way you can blow the image back on a new drve and be up and running right away. The alternative is to back up docs, pics, etc and reload every program including operating system, which is very time consuming.

Lap top screen

It's possible that it's a hardware problem, Since this is a laptop it may be hard for you to reseat some of the internal devices inside in your laptop so we could start isolating the issue from the hardware and to the software.

First try to power cycle it, turn off your laptop remove the battery, any external connection like external mouse, external hard drive and monitor and press the power button for 15 seconds after that put the battery in and turn it back on without the external devices plugged in. (if it turned on without a problem that's good-possible that one of the external devices are causing it to keep on restarting, to isolate it you can just put the external devices one-by-one and start the computer, if it start occuring you know who is causing the problem)

If you can disassemble your laptop you can try to remove the hard drive, then turn on your computer, if your computer didn't restart that means that the problem is with you hard drive, possible that the software installed in it is faulty or the hard drive itself (try plugging it back in properly let's see if it'll work, if not, you may need to buy a new hard drive or before buying one, you can try to plug your hard drive to a different computer (acting like an external hard drive) and backup all your important files and reformat that hard drive, after reformatting it you can try to plug it to your laptop again. (if that hard drive is not detected to another computer meaning that it's faulty)

If that didn't resolve the problem, you can try to reseat the memory testing each memory chip and slots, processor.

My windows explorer stops and restarts please help me to solve the same

It's possible that it's a hardware problem or your computer is infected by a computer virus. Does it restart when you see the windows XP logo or when you are in the desktop? or Does it restart before seeing the windows xp welcome screen? Since this is a laptop it may be hard for you to reseat some of the internal devices inside in your laptop so we could start isolating the issue from the hardware and to the software.

Hope this help.

No hdd memory

Okay, you have a few options here. You can either remove some programs from your computer, delete files, run the cleanup wizard, Take some information off of the Hard Disk Drive and place it on another; Get a new hard drive to replace the one you have, get an external hard drive to put data on, or Back it all up online, or a combination of them. If you want to do anything that requires more than one hard drive (except with an external hard drive) I would take it to your local computer guy and they will do it. I would recommend that you go to your computer guy and get a larger hard drive in place of the one you have right now and have an image of your hard drive placed on the new drive. If you need clarification, or have any other questions please feel free to ask me.

Hope this helps,

I can not erase the information on my D-drive.

You can actually Format your D drive to erase all the information in it.

You can customize back-up or restore to default in yuor external hard drive when you set it on System Restore/Bac-up in Windows.

Black screen for hp laptop

Hi,

Initially, a couple of ideas ou may want to explore:
  • hook an external monitor. Often there would be a VGA connector at the rear of a laptop specifically for this purpose. It would need a standard 15 video cable normally attached or with the external monitor. You may need to cycle through Fn + F? keys to enable the external monitor. F? would be the function key with the small monitor icon;
  • remove the hard disk of the erring laptop, connect it to a 2.5 to USB adapter and attach to a free USB port of a 2nd computer. it will be treated as an external storage device much like a thuimb/flash drive and therefore would allow copy and paste;
  • tap on the cover of the laptop, the one right behind the LCD screen anywhere on the sides, this is in the hope that it is a cold solder or loose connection;
  • run the laptop with the lid not fully opened;
  • slightly warp/twist the lid/LCD, it could just be a loose connection;
  • if the display works even just momentarily, then chances are that no major repair work is required. The bulk of the job would be in the opening and offhand, no major component replacement.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

About my ibm thinkpad t23

It may be possible with the right adapter. Any repair shop or hobbyist is likely to have one of these that can be attached to another computer to examine the hard drive. If the drive works, this is fairly easy.
There are more expensive procedures for drives that don't function.
