It sounds like a control unit has burned out. There is a computer that speaks to the motor to tell it what to do. If you reset it and a part is bad the computer will still recognize the problem and thus resend error message.
The Machine control is attempting to drive the motor but is not seeing any tachometer response or motor action. It could have a failed tachometer/hall sensor which is part of the motor, failed motor or machine control. It could be a loose wire connection at the motor or at the machine control board.
It sounds like you have a Maytag unit and it is giving an LD code which means that you have not opened the lid in at least 3 washes. If this is not the case, you will have to replace the lid switch assembly because it is not delivering the proper message to the controls.
just an FYI to anyone who might need to know. my neptune started kicking up an error of LR and stopping. i ended up sending an email to maytag and got a response back from one of their techs. the LR code means "Locked Rotor". when this happens the cause is one of two items. 1) the circuit board at the top of the unit has lost connection to the motor and its control board at the bottom (connector loose) or 2) the motor and or control board at the bottom have trashed and need to be replaced (P/N 12002039).
hope the info helps someone as i had a heck of a time finding it.
