Question about Canon MP610 Photo All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Black ink My printer has told me that it has run out of black ink. I have had a look at the cartridge and the thick one marked PGBK is empty. I do though have another black ink in the printer as well. The ink cartridge set up in my printer from left to right goes : Thin black cartridge (BK on the cartridge) Thick black cartridge (PGBK on the cartridge) Thin Yellow cartidge (y on cartridge) Thin magenta cartridge (m on cartridge) Thin Cyan cartridge ( c on cartridge) So my question is,why is no ink going from the thin black cartridge(BK) and all has gone from the bigger black ink cartridge( PGBK)? do i have to go buy another bigger black ink cartridge? or can i some how utilise the thin black one? Kind Regards Steve Pickstock

Same issue - frustrated I can't bypass to use the other ink if I choose two. Also frustrated that there was no warning, just ran out!

By mistake I have installed another skinny black (dye, I suppose) in place of the PGBK and thrown that one out.  It is now stuck! Do not attempt this, and I am not sure what to do!

Beware of buying replacment ink packs without the PGBK, but the Black and other colors instead!

The PGBK cartridge is a pigment black ink, while the others use a dye for coloration. The pigment black is used when printing text and other documents. The dye ink is used when printing photos and other colored documents. The dye black is used in conjunction with the color (dye) inks to provide tinting and color gradation, and therefore is not used nearly as much as the pigment black unless you use your printer only for printing photos.

If you're printing text and documents, you will need to buy another pigment black (PGBK) cartridge.

My PGBK ink cartridge is not printing. I just replaced it. Everything else is working fine. I have done several cleaning jobs on it and the test prints that I print don't even show PGBK or the black...

the PGBK ink cartridge might not be getting a good connection you might have to remove it and check the connections or clean the connection bars

You might have to uninstall the printer restart your computer then reinstall your printer

click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to ports(COM&LPT) + to expand you should see a communication port and Ecp printer port you

might see a yellow? ! question exclamation mark or a red X this will mean you need to install a new driver for this device right click you will have options to update driver, disable, uninstall or select properties again you will have the similiar options also you can troubleshoot the device
hope this helps you

I have a Canon Printer PIXMA MX870. My black ink (PGBK) has run out. Will the single black (BK) kick in? I've looked for the user manual which might describe this but couldn't find it.

The black ink (smaller cartridge) will not kick in, but if you are just getting the warning that the ink in the larger cartridge is out, you can override the alam by holding down the OK button on the printer. Once you do this, the printer will continue to print, but you have to manually monitor the ink to assess when the cartridge needs to be replaced.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

I have the PIXMA MP500 & 3 of m ink cartridges #8 blue, magenta & yellow ran out of ink but I have a brand new #8 black & #5 pgbk that I changed. Now I just want to print from the black ink...

Unfortunately, the printer is designed to need all of the ink cartridges in place and no empty ink cartridges. This is designed to protect the ink system from damage.

There is a way to print a color document in black and white but it won't help with your issue. (Enter the Printing Preferences by right clicking on the icon for the Canon MP500 in the Devices and Printers Panel (Win7). (It's Printers for the Vista Classic View and Printers and Faxes for XP) Then put a check mark in the box for Greyscale Printing in the main tab. Then click OK and close the window. There is a similar method for Mac OS versions.)

I wish that I had better news.

How do I direct my Canon ip4300 Printer to no longer print from the normal black 5BGBK cartridge (empty) but to print from the 8BK (full)

You can't because CLI-8Bk ink cartridge is use only for photo printing. For text, document or gray scale printing the printer use PGI-5Bk.You need to replace your empty PGI-5Bk.

How do I get my first blank ink cartridge to work?

you really need to replace the empty cartridge...it's a protection for keeping your printhead from drying or else the micro nozzles will be clogged with dry ink. did u try setting the printer settings to use greyscale or black and white only?

Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

Why two black ink cartridges?

The larger of the two cartridges is used for text only. The smaller is used for color printing. Its purpose is to eliminate the need for a "Processed" black (black being mader by the color inks).\
