IBM Intel PRO/100 VE Network Adapter

Intel Pro/100+ Mgmt w/ IBM 6877

By Janice - usenet poster

Hello,

I have a Pro 100 + mgmt adapter installed in an old IBM 133 (model 6877). The machine is running Win 95 and has driver 4.03.18.0000 for the card.

My home net consists of above, a laptop running 98 (3Com adapter), and a server running win 2000 also with a pro 100 plus mgmt adapter. The hub is a Linksys.

I'm forcing 10 MB half duplex on both Intel cards.

The problem seems to be with the IBM. It seems to login to the 2000 domain without problem but only inconsistently sees other computers. I have the best luck seeing the IBM from the 2000 machine but every time I try to copy a file to or from the IBM it starts out fine but then just stops. I can see the activity on the hub when it starts. Everything is great between the laptop and 2000, but anything with the IBM is sporadic at best.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Gary

Joe,

I tried a few things that might help you to help me...

One thing that seems to have made a difference is moving the card from slot 3 to slot 1. While I still have the problem it???s not nearly as prevalent. I can now copy files from the IBM of any size. It seems now that the problem is only occurring when I copy large files to the IBM. Something worth noting is that this PC apparently has only a 90 w power supply. I tried disconnecting my second hard drive and unplugging my sound card thinking the power may have had something to do with it. It didn???t seem to make any difference. I???ve also experimented with the various advanced settings related to the adapter but have found nothing that seemed to matter. I have also tried using a different cable as well as hub port, both of which work great for the laptop, but didn???t get any relief.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks in advance, Gary Larson
