I'm using the 56k PC Card Modem with X2 technology for my ThinkPad 385XD but nowhere near 56k. My ISP told me to get the latest "firmware" for my modem but IBM's website doesn't mention anything about this. I AM using the right settings and phone number for my ISP. It connects fine using the number for 28.8 but is dreadfully slow using the 56k/x2 line.
Any ideas?

IBM does have an upgrade for that 56K modem. It is the v90 upgrade. The file can be found at # . I believe this is the cellular capable modem that ships with the 385XD? (FRU 02k4249?). I have seen this work before at speeding up the transfering speeds. Download the file, extract it to a disk, then run pfwin.
