Two red rings means your X-BOX 360 is over heated you have to let it sit for about 24 hours before turning it back on

Red Rings of Death with Xbox 360

Flashing red lights on the Xbox 360’s normally green ring of light is a bad sign, no matter how you cut the cake, but all red lights don’t mean a visit down south is necessary. Some issues can be resolved from the comfort of one’s own home. The Xbox 360’s ring is divided into four separate quadrants. Each division turning red indicates a separate problem, all with a different way of resolving the issue. It should be noted that when gamers call the support line about their defective unit, the standard procedure of operation is to have gamers unplug all cables from the unit, reinsert them, and try booting the system again. The support worker will also have players remove their hard drive and reboot the system to check and see if that is the problem. In the hope of speeding the process along, it might be a wise thought to run through those procedures before calling the Xbox 360 support line.

As mentioned, each quadrant on the set of flashing red lights indicates a different issue. If all of the lights but the first section are flashing, this means a general hardware failure has occurred. There is little to be done other than trying to unhook and reattach your cables. This problem is a sure sign a visit to the repair center is in your console’s future. If the problem is indicated in the second quadrant of the system, it is merely overheating. As too many hours of GRAW will do that to a unit, the proposed cure here is to unplug the unit from the power supply, let it sit to cool down, and perhaps begin scouting for a better location to store your precious investment.

A problem indicated in the third quadrant of the Xbox 360 ring of light is diagnosed as a hardware failure. Once again, try re-inserting all of your cords and cables, but this problem should definitely be dealt with by the repair center. If all four lights are flashing on the front of your console, this is perhaps the easiest problem to fix. This is an issue with the AV cable not being properly inserted into the back of the console. The cure? Just make sure the cord “clicks” once it has been inserted into the unit. If that doesn’t work, of course call the repair center, but the four lights are the easiest of the problems to rectify.

Assuming that the assistance is needed, a phone call to the helpful people at the Xbox 360 support center is the next step. Every day from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. Eastern time, and 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time, gamers can call 1-800-4MY-XBOX to get the repair process started. International users can dial 425-635-7180. Once the call has been made, and the problem identified, an empty box is then sent out to gamers. The particular problem at hand will determine what all contents are shipped back to the repair center. Unless you are experiencing a problem with the hard drive of your console, all you typically send back is the system itself. Detach the hard drive, remove and store all discs, and keep all controllers and cords. There are warnings throughout the instruction page sent out that if you send in anything not needed, it might not be returned.

Red rings on the xbox 360 wont connect to live wont let me recover gamertag

The red rings are a fatal Xbox 360 error. There is no way to solve this problem except by having a qualified professional perform a reflow to the problem Chip. This can usually be determined based on the number of quadrants lit.
  • 1 Red Quadrant is usually System Error. A "E##" error code will be displayed on the screen. Most common is E74.
  • 2 Red Quadrants indicates the console is overheating.
  • 3 Red Quadrants indicates hardware failure. A secondary error code can be acquired by pressing and holding the sync button then while continuing to hold the sync button repeatedly pressing the eject button and noting the number of red quadrants that becomes lit.
  • 4 Red Quadrants indicates that either no A/V (Audio / Video ) Connection is available.
Good Luck! Let me know if you have any further questions. If you tell me which number of quadrants or the error code I can point you in the right direction.

What do i do when i get one red ring?

If you mean that all four quadrants of the ring are flashing red, check your A/V cable. Make sure all cables are nice and snug on both the Xbox and the Television.

If only 1 red light is showing, flashing or not, check any error messages listed on the screen and try Xbox support

Controller wont hook up with console ?

Is this a new controller?
Are the batteries new/recharged?

This is the sequence summary on where you are going to focus:
Step 1 - Controller
Step 2 - Console
Step 3 - Console
Step 4 - Controller
Step 5 - Both

Assuming your controller is a wireless version, Lets start!

Step 1 | Press and hold the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green "X" near the center of the controller.

Step 2 | Make sure that your Xbox 360 console is turned on. If your Xbox 360 console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on your Xbox 360 console.

Step 3 | On the Xbox 360 console, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small round button on the Xbox 360 console.

Step 4 | On the controller, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small button on the front edge of the controller, between the left bumper button and the charging port.

Step 5 | After the Ring of Light spins and flashes one time on the controller and on the console, the controller is connected. The quadrant on the Ring of Light that remains lit indicates the position in which the controller is connected.

Light indicator on console
Green light in the center- power is on
Green light on one quadrant - controller is connected
Four green lights rotating on four quadrants - ready to connect with controller

Light indicator on wireless controllers
No lights - no batteries
Green steady light on one quadrant - connected
Blinking green lights - its either its ready to connect or the batteries are dying

*Make sure that you have a fully recharged rechargeable batteries
*Make sure that you have a functioning/new non-rechargeable batteries
*If the steps above aren't working use another Xbox360 controller and follow the same steps.

If the new/working controller is connecting with the console this means that the previous controller is faulty - needs replacement.
If the new/working controller is not connecting with the console this may mean that the console is faulty - needs repair.

*NEVER TAMPER WITH ANY OF THE TWO AS TAMPERING WILL VOID EXISTING WARRANTY.

I have 1 red ring

a single red ring in the lower right quadrant means there may be a hardware fault with the system. Try unplugging all accessories and see if it solves the problem (it may be a problem with a connected accessory). Here is a link to the full troubleshooting guide from Microsoft:

I have 2 red rings on my xbox 360 but i dont understand what they mean...

The 2 flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console. The main thing that causes the 2 red lights to start flashing is because of overheating and as the motherboard within the console takes more heat it actually warps and bends until the solders become loose.

Once this happens you will receive the 2 red lights. Even before you get the 2 red lights you may have noticed your games freezing and this is caused in the same way, by overheating. As the chips take more heat they shut off to prevent lasting damage, although they can only do this a number of times until you get the Xbox 360 2 Red Lights.

To fix the problem you need to stop the level of heat the motherboard takes and you can do this in a number of ways, but it will involve opening up your Xbox and working on it. In addition, you could always send your Xbox back to Microsoft as they are offering free repair for this error, you will just need to wait 3-4 weeks that's all.

There is one more option available in the form of DIY Video Guide, that will explain you step by step approach to fix red ring of death within one hour without any technical knowledge.

Xbox 360 red lights

2 red lights flashing is'nt too bad of a deal. just reposition your xbox 360 to a place where more airflow can get to it. plus, dont have anything that gives off heat near the xbox 360, thats vary important to give it room for cool air. it worked for me
