In the internet options panel that has tabs on it and one says programs on it. Clicking this tabs shows you a list of default programs for different applications, one is e-mail, when you click it the drop down shows Outlook and Hotmail. I use neither because they are useless. I have gmail which integrated just fine with my Mac Mail program. What is wrong with the Windows Mail. Or is it just Windows is crappy. Thanks for responding Allen

Windoes Internet Program is crappy. as far as adding the gmail to the toolbar is no possible in the option . however, the best thing you can do is add the gmail link to the favorites.

Are you using Outlook Express or another email program (like Microsoft's Live Mail)? What ISP are you connecting to (Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail), gmail.com)?

This is a symptom of a security mismatch. The exact solution will depend on the answers to the questions above. Most likely, you either need to change the port from the default one. You also may need to change the encryption/authentication protocol. These settings may be under different sections of the email program setup menus. (They will be in the Advanced settings of the Server Settings/SMTP settings section of the program. Check under Tools)

For example, Live.com uses port 995, instead of 110 for the pop3 server. The outgoing SMTP server needs to be accessed at port 587, instead of 25. You need to include your full email address in your user settings for both the incoming and outgoing mail. See http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/hotmail-and-msn-accounts-pop3smtp-access/ for some details of the Hotmail/Outlook/Live Mail configurations.

Please add some comments with your specific situation for a better solution. I hope this helps.

How do I change my Microsoft Outlook Express to not be the default email server when I want to click on an email address to reply to within a website? The site for changing it does not offer gmail.com as...

if you are using internet explorer web browser, you simple go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>PROGRAMS. there you can change the default mail program from outlook express to whatever program you want. or, you can get pop server settings of gmail and then configure it to outlook express so that it will be more convenient. gmail server settings are found here:

I have windows mail and would like outlook express. Is there somewhere I can download it for free or do I have to buy a program?

If you have Windows Mail, you no doubt are running Windows Vista. Sorry, but Outlook Express is not supported in Vista. You are stuck with Windows Mail or a third-party mail client. FYI, I use Thunderbird and am quite satisfied. It works with Windows XP through Windows 7

When I attempt to e-mail an article from yahoo to another contact, windows internet explorer links to microsoft outlook which i do not use. How can i link directly to my e-mail at boaks1661@yahoo.com?

unfortunately what you are referring to are Mailto: links, which windows XP defaults to an actual mail program instead of web based email. The only solution is to configure your outlook express to use yahoo

Unable to open links from Outlook

When clicking a link in the Outlook Express or Word software in the Windows XP Operating System and nothing happens, ensure that the Internet Explorer web browser is set as the default web browser.

1. In the Internet Explorer window, on the toolbar, click Tools and then click Internet Options.

2. In the Internet Options window, click the Programs tab.

3. On the Program tab, click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser box.

4. Click the OK button.

If the issue persists, follow this procedure:

NOTE: This is an issue which may be resolved by following this Microsoft KB Article: Microsoft KB Article ID 823301.

  1. Click the Start button, then click Run.
  2. In the Run window, next to Open, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll.
  3. Press the ENTER key.
  4. In the RegSrv32 dialog box, click the OK button.
  5. Repeat this procedure for each of the following files, substituting the file name typed next to Open in step 2 for each of the files listed below:
  • regsvr32 mshtml.dll
  • regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
  • regsvr32 browseui.dll
  • regsvr32 msjava.dll
This should resolve the issue.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm unable to open .eml attachment in Windows Vista.

Here's some info: E-mail message saved by Microsoft Outlook or other e-mail program; may also contain an e-mail attachment, or file sent with the message. Note: If EML files will not open in Outlook Express, try the following:
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Select Folder Options from the Tools menu.
  3. Click the File Types tab.
  4. Under Registered file types, select EML Outlook Express Mail Message, then click Advanced.
  5. Click Open, then click Edit.
  6. Type the following line in the "Application used to perform action" box:
    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /eml:%1
  7. Click OK twice, then close the window.
EML files may also be opened in Internet Explorer since they are formatted the same as .MHT files; changing the file extension from ".eml" to ".mht" should cause the file to open directly in Internet Explorer.
Hope this helps.

Change default email client from outlook to web based

Hi. My name is Alex and Im here to help you solve your problem.

All you have to do is click start, settings, control panel and double click on the icon 'internet options'
Secondly you will see a list of sub headings in the internet options. Click programs

Here you can change the name of the program you wish to open when you click an email address. Please note if you are using a web based email address such as hotmail, then select the program in the list 'Windows live mail' so whenever you click an email address on a website, it will automatically open a window and direct you to hotmail's website

I hope this info helps. please let me know if you have any more trouble. Im happy to help.
