Mine is the same, it shows channel 3 and lights up the TV infra red light but nothing happens.

whenever any button on the remote is pressed the recorder displays "DVD 1" and will give no other response. I have tried brand new batteries to no effect. The Player works perfectly well using it's panel controls. I cannot find any little switch on the remote as described by the other solution

I have had this happen nore than once. If you press the 1 button and hold it down. At same time press and hold the enter button for 2 or more seconds. Your remote will now be set to the system. Some models have a device code of 2 or 3. If your not sure what your device code is start with #1 device code.

This happened to mine today and i didn't realize that when i slept on my remote overnight. i had the same problem as i had the infrared hook up and a flashing light to let me know this, but i couldn't control anything. i found out that i accidentally switched over the little switch that has normal on one side and ID on the other. flipping this back to normal took care of my problem.

"SET 1" Displayed and remote not working.

You have a Panasonic, they have a feature, in case you have two or three Panasonic units you can program the remote either be used on one, two, three. So if the display lights set one that means the remote control would control set one. There are several ways to change a setting one is in the player menu, I believe you can change the remote. Check your manual, this is not a big deal.

Dont work with remote control, shows SET I, I also used the rcontrol to turn on a Panasonic TV

This problem is caused by having more than 1 panasonic product using remotes, the remote may need to be reset say to set 2. I had this problem. It will tell you in the user trouble shoot guide to press and hold ok button down with the number button say 2 for several seconds, that should put the remote to to the correct setting.

Hope this helps

Panasonic DMR- EA18 DVD player/recorder - Remote control Problem

I figured out, unlike all the other posts, you don't have an enter button. But Instead, you would hit the 2 and OK button at the same time for a few seconds. I had the RC1 message and I did the 1 with OK and it worked. so if you have RC2, you should hit the 2 and OK. Should work!!

Hi, when i press any key on the dvd recorder remote (panasonic dmr-e55) i comes up with remote dvd 1 everytime and wont do anything else, weve tried umplugging it 2 but that doesnt help, do u have any...

Very easy fix.

Your DVD recorder can be set up to accept remote contol signals on any one of three channels. DVD 1, DVD 2 or DVD 3. Your remote can be set up to send signals on any of these channels. You need to make sure your recorder and remote are set to the same channel.

Your recorder is telling you that it is set to receive remote control signals on channel DVD 1. This means your remote control is currently set for a different channel.

Assuming that you have a genuine Panasonic remote, do the following, On your remote press the "Enter" button and hold it down. Then press the "1" button at the same time for two seconds, then release both. This will change your remote so it sends signals on DVD 1 which will match your recorder.

Those clever people at Panasonic realise that you will be delighted with their products and will probably have several of their appliances in use. The different channels avoids switching all your Panasonic gadgets at the same time. Clever huh?
Best wishes

Had this same problem and found the solution elsewhere on the net. Hold down the "1" button and the "Enter" button for aprox 10 seconds while pointing at the player. This "resets" the remote. I was skeptical when I first read this solution but it worked for me!
