Question about PC Laptops

1 Answer

Toshiba m300 charging trouble, stops charging when notebook is started.

It seems to charge fine as long as the computer is turned off. As soon as I start the computer, the charge lights go off and the computer does not recognize that it is plugged in. This means that I can only use the computer for a couple of hours, then I have to turn it off and re-charge the battery for a copuple of hours before continuing to use it.

    Thanks for the reply.

The problem is that the charging circuit seems to switch off as soon as the computer is started. The battery has about the same capacity as always, but if there is no way to run the computer from ac power, I can't charge and use the computer at the same time. This limits the use to however long it takes to discharge the battery. The battery then charges fine as long as the computer is switched off.

I'm not sure if this is controlled by software or electronic circuitry. (hardware).

    Thanks in advance for responses.

Sounds like the battery is showing that there is not much reserve..you may need to do a couple of deep discharge cycles..

I have a Satellite A215-S4807. The original battery went completely dead (possibly from this problem), so I just went out and got a new one with a 4800mAh, which is slightly higher than the 4000 it came...

There is something wrong with the "recharger" components on the computer's motherboard.
Instead of charging the battery, and then stopping the charging process, it is "draining" your batteries.

Take your Toshiba to the nearest qualified Toshiba service location, to get it fixed.

Toshiba Satellite M300 won't detect power when running, will only detect it and charge battery when turned off.

If there is no problem with the battery(does it hold a full charge?) or power cabling (unnatural bunching inside the plastic sheath, frayed wires etc), then the power adapter is not providing enough current to run and charge your laptop battery at the same time. This would suggest a hardware issue with your power adapter, consider replacing it.

Toshiba satellite A100 dead. orange steady battery light with mains connected and power button lights shift key and 2 function lights - that's it.

> orange steady battery light

It will turn GREEN when the battery is fully-charged.
Is there a problem with the battery not accepting a charge?
Remove the battery, to see if the computer will start without it.

> power button lights shift key and 2 function lights

Do these 2 lights just "blink" once, and then go out?

Does a "power" button stay lit?

Have you hired a professional computer technician to trouble-shoot?

My laptop won't charge

What do u mean by "adjust the cord" ? If u have to adjust by twisting the jack in the power input port then it is neither the fault of the cord nor the of the battery but may be the fault of the power input port.
Go to Toshiba service center and they will solv the prob.

My laptop will not turn on. It will not start up. I charged the battery until the green light came on. I plugged it up and it still didn't come on. What is wrong with it? Do i need to replace the battery...

No, it's not the battery -- especially if the battery "takes" a charge, and the battery-light turns GREEN.

Remove the battery, and leave the AC adapter connected, and try to start the computer.

Basically, it's time to take the computer to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting.

"Plugged in, not charging", Toshiba Satellite A135 S4527, under Windows Vista Home Premium

It sounds like the power socket on the laptop is faulty and needs replacing or resoldering. To check this, power up the latop with the power adapter, wriggle the plug in the power socket and check if the battery charge indicator flicks on and off indicating charging and not charging. If it indicator flicks on and off then you have a faulty power socket.
This can be repaired but required the laptop to be completely dismantled to access the power connector.
