Switching from HD to Standard screen gets a pinkish/purplish tint in SD only
Sony KF-50WE610 When I switch from HD to standard def it gets a pinkinsh/purplish tint on the screen, making it virutally unwatchable. Switching back to HD works fine. Problem is fixed when I either power reset the Cable box or TV.
I've switched out cable boxes to no avail. This is over the DVI interface.

It is the cable box. Using the HDMI or DVI output on cable boxes is a bad proposition; for some reason the cable box makers have not figured out how to make the HDMI/DVI output work consistently, something that rarely happens with satellite boxes. Use the component output. You will probably not be able to see a difference in picture quality and your problem will disappear. If you liked this solution, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!

It sounds like your kid switched to a different input. I am not sure what you have hooked up where but on your remote at the top there are two buttons - one is labeled HD.S and other is SD.S - I do not have my remote handy but am going from memory. The HD.S button switches to the hi-def inputs and the sd.s switches to the standard definition inputs. Try pressing these and switch around until you see a signal again. You will need to let the input "stabilize" and the picture appear so when you switch inputs give it 10 seconds or so before moving on.
Your in standard def mode. You need a hd signal in order to utilize the 16:9 ratio. If you have a hd signal going to it, then you need to push the aspect button on the remote and select 16:9. But all sd signals will display in 4:3 or as you stated the middel 2/3 of the tv

It's not an expensive fix for a qualified shop - call around and explain what you have here in your post. A good shop will know what this is right away...
