Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hello, I own a Maytag MAH5500BWW washing mashine and when filling at beginning, cold water comes in wery slowly or not at all. I checked all the tubing and nothing is clogged. I want to replace the inlet valve...is it the short one (P/N:; 100081) or the long one (P/N: 791006). Finally, where can I buy parts in Quebec, Canada...I do not want to do any business with Sears (where i bought it)because I had too many bad experiences with customer support. Thanks in advance for your help. C.Meunier

I asked you which of the 2 parts I needed...you say "this is the part you need" !?!

I asked you where can I find parts for Quebec...that is because   APPLIANCEREPAIRCLINIC only ship in the states...otherwise I would have bought it from them (this is where I got the part number.

Thanks for trying...I know I didn't pay for the info but with the answers I got, I think it was a smart move not to pay for the service.

What the heck does nd stand for? Why does it sometimes say nf? Model MAH5500BWW

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

ND error in your Maytag Front Load washer indicates no drain issue. To start with check the drain hose for any clogs and try cleaning it, then check restriction in drain pump assembly or loose wire at the pump.
NF error in your Maytag is displayed due to no fill condition, when the washer tries to fill but is unable to, nf is displayed. Please check the water inlet valve for any clogs and obstructions, you can also clean the inlet to solve the issue. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I have a maytag neptune MAH5500BWW. Everytime the water company shuts off the water to repair a leak, the tub fills with water, sometimes overflows onto the floor. Works just fine when there is pressure...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
This is symptomatic of a malfunctioning water control valve- depending on whether it is hot or cold water with which the tub fills.
Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call ;-0(
Good luck,

Hello. My washing mashine awt 2285 is washing only with cold wather. How can I repair the termostat. Thank you for your help

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

If your washer is hot and cold fill (2 inlet water pipes connected), it is possible that the hot water inlet valve is malfunctioning. You can test this by feeling if the hot water inlet pipe gets hot when the washer is supposed to be filling with hot water.
If you washer is cold fill only it is possible that either the programming is malfunctioning or, more likely in my opinion, the heating element is malfunctioning/broken and requires replacement.
Good luck,
John C

Drum is filling with water after each wash

There is only 2 possibilities for the drum to fill with water after it has finished.
Firstly, if the empty pipe is connected to the sink outlet pipe, the water can syphon back into the washer if the pipe is too low, thereby slowly filling the washer when not in use.
Solution is to lift the outlet pipe higher.than the bottom of the sink.
The other reason is the inlet valve is not shutting off properly.
To prove if this is the case, turn the water off at the valve, if it is hot and cold fill, then turn the hot off only, and wait and see if water comes in over a period of time, if it does not then you need to replace the hot valve.
If water stills comes in with hot turned off, then you need to replace the cold valve.
If cold fill only , turn off cold and wait to see if any water comes in, if it does not, then replace cold valve.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Tub fills with water

replace water valve in the washer. Serial number is needed to find the correct part number. It's likely 22003834, but call any parts supplier with model/serial numbers to verify.

Good luck,

Washing machine fills in the water but does not start the wash cycle

The fact that it does not fill completely can be related to a problem with the water-level switch, that regulates the water level.

See from Repairclinic:
"This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch."

However, when it is only the switch the mashine usually completes the cycle, but with less water than normal.

A possibilty is that either the timer is faulty or there is a problem with the water supply.

Check that water is coming from water supply with regular pressure, and that hoses back there are not obstructed.

More likely you will have to replace the timer.

See again from Repairclinic:
"When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water."

  • You can find parts at the following websites, you need to input your model number. If the part is not listed contact them.

    Many thanks.

MY 90 WERIES KENMORE WASHING MACHINE FABRIC SOFTENER DISPENSER DOES NOT EMPPTY

I am having the same issue. I do know that the reason you don't see any physical provision for it to drain is because it is drained using a siphoning effect. water is put on top of the fabric softener until it reaching a point where the siphoning begins. Once the siphoning begins, the whole thing will drain out until there isn't much left (however there will always be a little water left). I know siphoning works with my drawer b/c when I take it out and fill it with water slowly until the siphoning begins, the whole thing drains out. There must be another reason why the fabric softener isn't working.
