Question about Kenmore 24 in. 15932 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Kenmore built in dishwasher~2001 model year ,noisey when running.

When D/W is running ,it has a whirring noise to it. Cleaned out the inlet to pump and found 3 peices of glass ,a nail ,and a plastic bread tie just in front of grinder. Does not seem to be anything else further inside using a small mirror. With inlet cleaned out ,problem still exists. Any thoughts on this .It did not do this a month ago. It came on gradually. It was quiet when running before. At 7 years old, what is a dishwashers lifespan? No preveous problems with this unit. Pump area was in good condition ,with no food build up anywhere.Cleans the dishes fine. I am leaning toward a bearing either in the motor,or the pump. But there is no leaking at all. I did not do an amp reading to see what kind of amperage it is drawing. What do you think?

Dishwasher was giving off a whining/grinding noise while cleaning. Now it barely draws any water in to start the cycle and will not start washing at all...only a humming noise

Have you checked that the filters on the hose inlets are clear? Turn off water and undo hose to check, there is a small filter in the inlet. Have you checked that the outlet hose and trap is clear and that it can pump the water out? Have you cleaned all filters? The noise could be the pump blocked or unable to empty.

Dishwasher will not drain.

When you start that model, it is supposed to run the drain pump for 90 seconds...i'd suspect, since it's noisey on startup and not draining, that you probably have something stuck in your drain pump (food debris), or possibly the pump is faulty. Remove the pump from under the dishwasher, and check for debris.

Kenmore ultra wash 665.16761690

If it is not overfilling, and then leaking, the whirring noise can be a defective water inlet valve, that stays stuck on open, see here : It's overfilling

If it is not overfilling, the two problems may be unrelated, and the noise can be froma foreign object inside the object trap.

See here about leaks and noise

It's noisy

It leaks

Whining noise with Kenmore 16032 dishwasher

I had a similar issue, I removed the lower spray arm (had to hold center plastic tab with pliers and then unscrewed and lifted up the arm). Then I removed the cover with the screen filter(4 screws) and then removed the top half of the stainless chopper housing (1 screw). Found that things like cherry pits, elastic bands, bread plastic ties had blocked the water inlet to the chopper and the area around the chopper blade. Cleaned it all up, reassembled and machine works great! Mine was so blocked that I was hardly getting any water pressure to the upper rack.
