Yes. First when the tray is opened watch the green light . It should
blink then stay on steady.
When the tray is closesing you should see a blinking
green light in the center of the ring of lights .When the tray
is fully closed and engaged the light will stop blinking then you
should hear the drive spin-up. If not open the tray then close
it ,just as the tray is almost closed push it close hard then the
green flashing light should be steady on.
This is cause mostly by friction in the drive or a bent
leaf switch that the tray engages to tell the console
the state of the tray .
The remedy is either you or a shop
will need to open the drive and remove the frictions
points which very from drive to drive. and check the
leaf switches . cost 40.00 or so . or you could simply buy a "new" drive on ebay and swap the
Drives P.C. board from the old drive to the new one
price 40.00 but you supply the labor.
I gave you more info than you need but this is common problem and I hope it will help others also
I learned this from a Youtube video and this did the trick for me. Hopefully, it will solve it for your X-Box 360 too!
1.Put disc into X-Box 360.
2.Turn X-Box 360 off.
3.Open tray.
4.Take disc out.
5.Slam Tray
6.Turn off X-Box 360 (Immediately after slamming the tray shut)
7. Turn on X-Box 360

Your dvd drive probably has a bad motor. There are three motors inthere. One moves the tray. One moves the laser and another spins theDVD. If the tray ejects than that motor is fine. If you hear the discspinning then that motor is fine. Take the top off the dvd drive andsee it the laser moves when you close the tray it should move slightlythe laser should bob up and down and light up if none of that happensyou have a bad laser drive motor or bad laser. The solution is to buy agood DVD drive the same as your make and change the pcb boards (thecircuit board in the DVD drive) make sure yor pcb stays with yourconsole as the motherboard and pcb are keyed together.
The blinking green light is because your 360 is not understanding that the disc tray is closed. That's also the reason that the tray comes back open. It's not getting fully closed. Next time you insert a game push the drive closed with your hand. You'll know the drive is closed when the light stops blinking.
Listen close and see if you hear the tray motor running. If you do then, most likely, the belt and pulleys that move the disk tray are dirty. Which might also explain not being able to read disks. Here's what to do: Pull the face plate off of the 360. This will NOT void your warranty. Beneath the disc tray (look under and "into" the tray) you should see a gear wheel on your left side. Push eject. Use a toothpick (or similar object) to turn that gear from left to right. Keep turning and the tray should pop open. Unplug (WITHOUT turning off) the 360. Pull the disk tray to full extention and look through the slot in the center of it. You'll see the belt and pulleys. Tweeze the belt out small pulley first clean the belt & pullies w/alcohol. Put belt on big pulley first. Then run a lens cleaner disk when you get it opening again.
The green center light flashes when the drive is inaccessible for reading.
Examples: You open or close the tray The drive is disconnected The drive is totally burnt out
The most likely cause of this problem is that the cable somehow came loose that connects the DVD drive to the motherboard. Carefully take apart the box, and reseat the cable. If the cable was NOT loose, you may need a new drive.
If you still have a warrenty sticker call up Microsoft and tell them that your Xbox 360 has overheated, and tell them your serial code. They will tell you if your warrenty is expired, if it's not they will ask you where you live then pick up your Xbox 360 and fix it for free. If your warrenty has expired try this. Power off the Xbox 360 and when it is off press the eject button, it might open they tray. Or try opening your Xbox 360 and remove the disk drives cables from the disk drive and the motherboard and put it back together, you should never try the towel trick really, although it works it can also give your Xbox 360 3 red lights then you have to buy X-clamps and theormo paste, just do the X-clamps and theormo paste when you get one red light. I have had two Xbox 360's, when I did the towel trick it burnt the GPU, the other one a little componante came loose, sorry for my spelling. Hope this helps =D
You may need a new drive, but I doubt it. After you get the Xbox open, peel off the silver tape thats on the bottom front of the DVD player, unplug the 2 connections, and lift it out. Turn the player upside down and remove the 4 screws, flip it back over and make sure that the try is lined up correctly with the mechinism.
