Question about Microsoft Broadband Networking MN-500 Wireless Base Station (L21-00001) Router

Connection to iMac not working

I have a MS MN-700 wireless router managing my home network. Internet connection is via DSL. I have an iMac (hardwired Ethernet) and 2 Windows laptops (wireless) connected to the Mn-700 router. The wireless connection stopped working 2 days ago. The hardwired Ethernet connection to the Mac works fine. Is there a way to manage the MN-700 router from the Mac? Any ideas on what to troubleshoot?
Thanks!

The easiest way is hard wire a windows laptop and use the CD that came with the router.

go to start run and type cmd and press entere. A black screen shows up. type ipconfig then press enter. You may have to scroll up but the number next to gateway is the ip address you need to type into your browser to get acess into the router.

Hi... If your running on XP, try theses simple steps:

1. Right-click the wireless icon on the taskbar (lower 2. Left-hand corner near time) and View available networks.

3. Left-click the "change advance settings"

4. A windows should pop up... now go to wireless tab and tick or bullet point "Let windows manage wireless connections"

5. Then click apply. Then try to connect to your wireles router again.

If the wireless tab doesn't appear, the click start and Run then type services.msc then click OK.

Double-click Wireless zero configuration and set it to automatic then press apply and click start to start the service. Then try to do the instructions again.

If you're running on Vista, disable the wireless software provided by your wireless card manufacturer to enable windows to manage wireless networks. Then try to connect to your router again.

Hope it helps!

MS Router MN-700 Does Not Reconnect

When you have PPPOE setup on the router Normally there is a Client Lease Time on your Router, by Default its Set to 0 i will recommend you to change that to 999 and save the changes. that should take care of your issue.

So if you connect the computer directly to the modem , it works .
That means your modem is working properly. Your ISP is DSL connection. Now connect the modem to the router and the computer to the router. Open the router xet up page and change the settings of the router according to the type of connection you have.
There are 2 types of connection in DSL.
DHCP and PPPOE .

Wireless router

Yes, you can use wireless router with the modem. I guess the actiontech DSl router that you have is also Wireless one. If so, you can use just the DSL router for wireless connection. If you really want to use Dlink router with it, Connect the ( WAN port ) of the Dlink router to the ( LAN Port ) of the Action tech modem [ modem(LAN)-->Dlink(WAN) ]. Once you do this connection, better to do power cycle ( unplug the pwr to the dlink first, then, disconnect the pwr to action tech - wait 1min and plug the pwr to modem, wait for DSL light to be solid , then put the pwr back to dlink ). Make sure DSL light on the modem solid, internet light & WLAN light on the link glowing.
- Make Hardwire connection between the computer to Dlink and check the ip address on the computer whether it acquires the ip address from Dlink and then check the internet connection on the computer, it has to work. if computer not getting ip from dlink, try restarting computer.
- If hardwire connection on the dlink works fine and check the wireless connection.

For wireless configuration or assistance you may check this link:

please feel free to ask, if you have any more assistance.

Networking xp and 98

First off, the MN700 basestation is not suported to do this. But it is doable, and here is what I did. I connected a win XP machine (the ICS host) to a win 98 machine (the ICS client). Both used good old fashion network interface cards and standard ethernet cable - no wireless for me yet (that's next week) First I installed the software for the MN700 - aka the "Microsoft Broadband Network Utility." Then I went in to configure the router. I simply set the MN700 to Access Point mode. I did this by logging into the MN700's Base Station Managment Tool. I gave the MN700 a name (ie MSHOME-MN-700 works well), because after I change it from Router to Access Point mode it will no longer have a fixed IP address. To change it, select Security -> Base Station Mode Select the radio button for "Access Point" There is a spot on the bottom of this screen to give the Base Station a name, put something in here (ie MSHOME-MN-700). click apply. Now, I restarted my winXP machine, my win98 machine, and my MN700. Once they all came back online, I went to my dialup connection (Start->Control Panel then select Network Connections). Right click on the dialup connection, and go to properties. On the advanced tab, select the check box for "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Click OK Now I restarted my winXP machine and the MN700 again. They came back online, and I could see the MN700 on the network (my machine now gave out IP address (via DHCP and ICS). Now I restarted the win98 machine and it hooked up to the network fine. Wireless devices also connect to the network now with no problems. The key is to set the MN700 from Router to Access Point. If you want to add File and Print Sharing, it is the same as on any network. If you have a USB highspeed modem, this will work as well. If you have a highspeed modem connected directly to a PC via ethernet and you don't want it to go throught the MN700 first, this will work too, but the PC will need a second ethernet interface. Either WiFi or wired. Cheers
